I’m doing a bit of knitting again and it feels really good. I’ve been doing my best to take it slow, for the most part I’m doing well with that. It’s only been a few days but no real pain has hit me.
The socks I started in December are finally now off the needles. I wasn’t sure how the yarn would knit up when I bought it and it sure is interesting. After the first sock I wasn’t sure I liked how the pooling changed throughout the sock but now I think it’s a lot of fun. They are a very squishy pair of socks, the pattern I knit is Blueberry Waffle socks, a free pattern on ravelry.
After finishing these up and after a bit of rest for my hand, I used some of the left overs to knit a new square into my sock yarn blanket. There are 103 squares in my blanket, it fits over my lap nicely, it’s a cozy thing to knit on now. I need to stop putting it away for so many long stretches, maybe a square every week would be nice to knit.
A new pair of socks are now on the needles. The yarn is House of A La Mode in her Autumn Maple colorway. I’m knitting the Hermione’s Everyday sock pattern. This is the sock pattern that really made me want to knit socks, but I’ve never actually knit a pair of them before.
So far I absolutely love knitting these! It’s a real struggle to make myself take breaks. These are going to be for my sister when they’re finished. I’m hoping they will be her birthday socks next month though I’m not sure they’ll be done in time. I’m sure she’ll still be happy if they end up a belated gift.
I love knitting socks, I started knitting socks in 2014. My sock knitting preferences have changed so much since I started. When I started, I knit toe up socks all the time and was certain that would never change. Until last year when I knit a pair of Rose City Rollers and decided I would knit them exactly as the pattern stated which meant knitting cuff down and knitting a heel flap and gusset (instead of my go-to FLK). I love knitting socks cuff down now! I actually much prefer the way they fit compared to the earlier socks I knit for myself. And now sadly, my early socks aren’t being worn as much.
Last year my goal was to knit 12 socks, one pair per month, totally doable. I came very close, I finished 11 pairs. Pair #12 is still a WIP.

I ended up with a very painful case of tendinitis early in December which is why pair #12 is still a WIP. I had pain a couple times during the year but a few days of rest always helped it go away. This time though was much much worse, so I stopped all knitting for about a month. I tried a little bit of knitting again right after the new year but after knitting the heel flap, the pain came right back, so I’m back to resting my hand again.
I’m hoping this pain will finally go away so I can get back to my sock knitting soon. It’s definitely frustrating not being able to pick up my needles whenever the mood strikes (which is almost all the time!). When I finally do get back to it, I’m going to make a serious effort to slow down more often so I can hopefully avoid another injury like this.
Every year on Goodreads, I set a goal for the amount of books that I want to read during the year. This year I’ve decided to push myself and have set my goat at 30. It’s been a couple years since I’ve reached that number, crochet and knitting usually come first now unless I’ve found a book that I just can’t put down.
In addition to that, I have decided to join in with the Modern Mrs. Darcy’s reading challenge. I’m not planning ahead much, I’m just going to continue to pick out books on a whim and then fit them into categories as I go.
I just started reading Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. It’s a book that has been on my to read list for a very long time. I like the movie a lot, so I’m really hoping that I will like the book too.
The only book that I’ve planned besides this one is for the last category, a book you’ve already read at least once. Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling is one I’ve read before, I think she’s hilarious, I can’t wait to read it again.
Just last week I decided once and for all that I was done with blogging over at Plus 3 Crochet after months of not posting. So, what the heck am I doing now?? I really did want to blog but every time that I went to do it, I just couldn’t press publish. That blog became less of a space where I felt comfortable just writing whatever I wanted. It was great for when I used it but I feel like it’s time for a new space for me.
First posts on blogs are always so hard to write! If someone out there is actually reading this, welcome to my space, take off your shoes! I’m going to do my best to blog semi-regularly. I’ll be writing about my knitting, reading, crocheting, with possibly some boring life stuff mixed in too. Leave me a comment saying “hi” if you’re there! I’d love to know who you are.
That’s all I’ve got for this first welcome/intro blog post. I’ll be back with real content soon!
