sick but crafty still…

Didn’t mean to take such a break from posting! We had a pretty nasty sickness make its way through everyone in the house, it was rough, I’m still feeling exhausted from all of it. It’s also been quite awhile since any of the bugs got me too but it got me this time, luckily my husband was home, so I managed to sleep for about two days.

Enough of that talk, somehow I managed to be crafty during all that time. I started knitting a pair of socks for myself, this will be the first pair for myself that was started this year! I’m knitting up the pattern Georgia on My Mind, with just small changes. I decided to take the seed stitch pattern into the toe, I really love how it looks! I’m also knitting 64 stitches instead of 72 for this pair and trying to keep my gauge loose. This yarn is so much fun, I’m loving it so much.

Hexie Love Actually is another project I got started! I’m beyond in love with this project already. I still wasn’t sure how I was going to mix up the colours when I started but as I started joining, it sort of just fell together. The multi-coloured hexagons are scattered in no real order but the solids will have an order, once I get a picture of it further along, it will make sense.

scrappy sock granny

This one I really didn’t spend much time on but I tried out the grey to join up my scrappy sock granny squares.I don’t like it at all! I didn’t really want to go with white or cream but that’s what I’m going to end up using. This one will be sitting until I decide to buy some new yarn.

That’s all I’ve got to share today for crafting. Thanks for stopping by ♥

yarn love & podcast watching

A lot of yarn has made its way into my house this week! This is not a normal thing, though I sure wish it was. Buying this much yarn makes my heart hurt a little, I really don’t love spending money. Most of the yarn that I bought is for specific projects though, so I’m trying not to be too upset over it.

The minis are from Nikki Slipp’s etsy shop and are obviously for my sock yarn blanket. I’ve bought mini skeins from her many times and usually have a good amount left after knitting a square, so I’ll most likely be adding the same colors to my granny square blanket that I started.

yarn in the door this week

The two grey skeins are the yarn that I ordered to join my grannies, so I’m hoping to get started on that this weekend. They’re both Manos Del Uruguay Alegria in the Marshes colorway. I also bought another Alegria from my local shop in the Hurache colorway, its so colorful, I can’t wait to knit socks out of it. I bought two skeins of Madeline Tosh DK for no reason other than to bring an online order up to receive free shipping, they’ll find a use someday. The colorways I got are Calligraphy and Kelp.

new blanket colors

The rest of the yarn that I purchased this week are for a new crochet blanket I’m going to start. I’m going to be crocheting the Hexie Love Actually pattern. I already have two scrappy blankets, more than that if you look at my ravelry page (yikes), so I decided for this one I would try to use only a few colors. The colors above are what I’m using, my favorite flower is the sunflower so that’s how I chose my colors. I’m not sure if all the hexagons will be the same or if I’ll use a mix of three colored hexagons and solids. Before I can even really worry about that though, I need to wind all these skeins. I wind by hand, so it’s going to take a bit of time, I plan on watching quite a few podcasts while I wind.

A few podcasts I’m loving right now; all are video podcasts which are my favorite kind for knitting and crafting, I like being able to see what the podcaster is talking about. There are more podcasts that I love but I thought I’d share just a handful today.

  • Grocery Girls Podcast – this one is hosted by sisters, I kept hearing about them right after their first episode but put off watching until their third. When I finally watched, I binged hard! They’re so much fun to watch and they live only 6 hours from me, pretty cool to find more Canadian knitters that I wouldn’t hate meeting!
  • Hungry Cat Podcast – hosted by Jesse, I love her stories about her cat Bruce and that she shares reading reccomendations, I always love to add a book to my reading list.
  • Pinfeathers & Purls – hosted by Candace, another Canadian knitter! She’s in Calgary, another place not too far from where I live.

I could go on and on about these podcasts but I won’t, I don’t want to sound too much like a crazy person.

♥ Have a great rest of your day! ♥

knits this week

Lots of knitting and reading and podcast watching has been happening here this week, even some working out has been happening. I probably won’t share much about my working out, right now anyway but I’m really happy that I’m doing it and sticking to it.

I don’t think it really looks like it in a picture but my shawl has grown a lot this week, I’m getting pretty close to being able to bind off. I haven’t counted how many stitches are on my needles now, it’s most definitely over 100. So vague. I’ll be happy when it’s done though, so I can practice how to wear it.

The book pictured is Grace & Style by Grace Helbig. It’s her second book now, if you don’t know who she is, look her up on youtube. It’s not really for everyone but she’s funny, I’ve been a fan for a few years now.

Over the weekend, I finished up the neon socks that I was knitting. I have them almost completely matching, they’re maybe off by a couple rows. Matching isn’t something I really care about but I think it’s pretty cool when it happens not on purpose.

The socks are being sent along with a cute little bunny nugget for the sock owner’s daughter. She picked out the fun neon yarn for her mom, so I thought it might be fun to send along something for her too.

bunny nugget

This was my first bunny nugget and probably not my last, it was such a quick and fun knit! This is also my first knit toy. I’ve wanted to knit a toy for quite a long time but just felt too intimidated by it. Even though this is something so small, it still feels like a big accomplishment and I’ll definitely try out a bigger toy soon.

Now that I’ve finished up those socks, I’m going to be knitting myself a pair of socks. I haven’t knit socks for myself since the socks I finished in January. If a KAL hadn’t popped up, I probably would be knitting another pair of gift socks, I’m not sure what it is but I want to knit socks for other people lately. I’m going to be knitting for the stripey sock KAL happening in Candace’s Pinfeathers & Purls ravelry group. The socks I’m knitting and hoping to actually finish are the Stitch Surfer socks, I started and got all the way to the heel in 2014 and then frogged them. The heel was the reason I frogged the first time, it frustrated me too much but I’m pretty sure I can deal with it now, I was still too new at sock knitting back then.
