trying new things

I’ve been trying new things! First thing is knitting a toy! The Legacy Knitz podcast is having a Stuffy Along, you can either crochet or knit a toy. They have a ravelry group that you can post along in. I used to crochet toys all the time, so that’s what I thought I would do and actually I still might, there’s time. But, I decided to challenge myself to knit one instead.

I have knit a bunny nugget before but I felt like a full toy would be more of a challenge for myself. And it was but it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. I knit up a Brambles Bear using House of a La Mode in the Splendor colorway, in her dreamy DK base, I got in her yarn club last year. Knitting him only took me two days, we had a painter in the house all week, so I had plenty of knitting in quiet time. People in my house make me very uncomfortable! People in general make me feel uncomfortable but in  my house is much worse.

Anyway, he turned out super adorable! I think his eyes are a little bit wonky but it’s not a huge deal at all. I knit him for my son who had been asking me for a new toy for such a long time. Compared to the toys I’ve crocheted before, this bear is tiny! My hand cramped up so badly while knitting this and right after I thought he’d be the only knit toy I would ever make but I’ll try it again, it’s too cute not to. In fact, I’m going to cast on a Jerry the Musical Monkey for my daughter sometime this weekend, I’ll be using another House of a La Mode yarn.

The other new thing I’ve tried is not really a big thing, a lot of knitters do it, I cast on a new sock while still knitting another pair. I’m extremely monogamous with my socks and also I only had one set of my favorite needles. I bought a second set not long ago, in case one day something happened to the ones I love. My favorite needles are Knit Picks, they’re nice and cheap too.  I do want to try the more popular brands of needles but they’re not cheap and I like to try to not spend my money on too expensive things.

two sock wips

The bright yarn is Black Market Wool in the Groove is in the Heart colorway, I won it in one of her instagram giveaways last year. It took me far too long to knit with it, it’s such a fun colorway. I’ve already finished the first sock and am knitting on the foot of the second. I’m knitting that sock in the Vanilla Latte pattern, it’s my first time knitting this one and I’ll definitely knit it again.

The second sock I cast on is the Hermione’s Everyday sock pattern, I knit the pattern earlier this year for my sister but this pair is for me. Other than knitting vanilla socks, this is the first time I’ve knit a patterned sock again. I knit this sock with a rolled cuff instead of my usual 2X2 rib, I’m curious about how it will feel when I wear them. The yarn is Knit Picks Hawthorne in the Cosmic Speckle, it’s so much fun!

So those are the new things I’ve been giving a try lately. It feels good to give myself small challenges, I really need to start trying in other areas of my life too.

Thanks for stopping by and reading today! Have a great day ♥

something to leave behind

I’ve been knitting quite a bit on my sock yarn blanket lately, I touched nothing else all weekend. It’s such a relaxing knit. Relaxing is something I need more of right now. I’ve been in my head much more than I would like. Depression is such an annoying pest, I really wish it was something that could be taken away permanently. To say I’m sick and tired of it would be a major understatement.

But, knitting and even my working out seem to help a little. Although I haven’t been working out as hard as I was a few weeks ago because of all the sick that smashed its way through our house. After the sickness, my eye acted up and I had to hide in the dark for three days. FYI if a child gouges your eye with her little fingernail, you will be dealing with pain 10 years later. I have another appointment with my ophthalmologist soon to talk about getting the scar tissue taken out finally.

weekend plans

One of the major things I’ve been thinking about lately is what I want my kids to know when I’m gone. I want to be as open and honest with them right now of course but they’re so young that there are things I know they can’t deal with yet. So I bought a journal to write anything and everything they might want to know. I hope when they’re older it will be something they enjoy going through. I would definitely love if my mom did something like it. I found journal that my grandma wrote recently, it was more of a diary but I think it’s fun to know what kinds of things she was up to.

Now to figure out how to write all that I want to!

♥ thanks for visiting! ♥

the recents

I finished my socks recently! I’m so happy with how they turned out, I am just in love with the colorway. I honestly want to buy more of this yarn and I will if there is any left on my next trip to the yarn store. I knit the pattern, Georgia on my Mind and made one small change, I carried the seed stitch pattern into the toe. That change makes me so happy, I think they look so good this way!

Georgia on My Mind socks

I’m participating in another KAL called the Box O’ Sox over in the Yarngasm podcast group on ravelry. I don’t have a box yet and I’m very behind, this is only my first pair and there needs to be 12 by the end of the year but I think I’ll get there. Right after finishing these socks, I cast on for a new pair of socks but they have been giving me some serious grief! So far, I have cast on three times and frogged three times, I’m not sure what is happening. The yarn is another Alegria yarn and I want to knit with it so badly but I think I may have to switch to something different.

My crochet blanket has also grown quite a bit in the last couple weeks but I’m running low on yarn, so I need to go buy more. Right now it’s about baby blanket sized, I’m not sure exactly how big I will end up making it, as long as I can curl up with it, I’ll be happy with whatever size it ends up being. I just adore this blanket so much!

hexie love actually

I know my posting so far has been so sporadic but if you’ve been reading, thanks so much for taking the time to do so! It might just be me but I feel like blogs have become something not many people read much anymore. I could be completely wrong in that, it may just be all the knitting podcasts that I watch now, that seems to be the very “in” thing at the moment and it feels like that’s what people want to spend their time with right now.  Anyway, thanks for stopping by, I’ll be posting again real soon 🙂 ♥
