summertime

So, it’s summer. I’ve been keeping myself busy, mostly with the outdoors now that I’ve got an allergy medicine helping more, although I do pop an extra once in awhile. Being outside as much as I am really is a bit abnormal for me, I usually have to force myself to go outside for the kids sake but this year it’s where I want to be. I’m not sure how much posting I will be doing for the next couple months but I hope to pop in every so often. I love that I say that as though I post on a schedule haha

the annual ice cream cake aka my birthday cake! This year on my birthday πŸ˜„ always my favorite cake πŸ‘… ps. A happy birthday to my insta birthday pals @greenbeanbaby & @houseofalamode πŸ˜™πŸ˜™πŸŽ‰ #dqicecrea

I'm just so in love with crocheting this πŸ’— #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #vintagecrochet #popcornblanket #makersgonnamake

having a small break from all the hand projects thanks to pain 😐 blah! πŸ‘‡ here's a moose head that I finished last week and forgot to post! No pattern for him, he was a lot of fun to figure out as I crocheted. He's already gone to h

I don't think I've really cared much for Zodiac signs in my adult life but the cross stitch patterns from @craftnik are amazing! Cancer is my sign #crossstitchersofinstagram #craftastherapy #satsumastreet

  • my birthday was June 29th, we had the usual ice cream cake! My favorite! Next time we may try the lactose free one so my oldest can enjoy it too. So, now I’m 34. Not a big deal, I thought I already was months ago when asked haha
  • I fell in love with a blanket on instagram and went on a search immediately for the pattern. I was relieved that it took no time at all to find it! The pattern is called Swedish Popcorn Bedspread (free). I tried a few different yarns to find the look that I wanted, the pattern is written for thread but that’s not what I want. I ended up buying a new yarn from Loops & Threads called Cambria. It works up so nice, it’s incredibly soft but doesn’t seem to fuzz much, I think it’s perfect for this blanket. The only issue with this yarn is that it’s strangely static-y when it comes off the ball, it’s not at all static-y in the finished hexagons though, so I’m sticking with the yarn. I do want to add a fringe at the end, so I will have to find another yarn for that.
  • My cousin had a baby recently and asked if I could crochet a moose head for her to mount in his nursery. I didn’t use a pattern, just figured him out as I crocheted. It took a couple tries to get the sizing right but I finally got it perfect. I think he turned out really adorable. After a great visit with the newest baby, the moose is now in his new home and I can’t wait to see him up on the wall!
  • I cross stitched! I don’t even remember the last time I started and finsihed a cross stitch project. I loved this pattern as soon as I saw it! I bought it right away and started the same day. Β When I was younger, I liked the zodiac signs but I haven’t cared or even thought about them in years. This pattern didn’t take me too long to stitch at all, I enjoyed it so much! I’m thinking of making one for everyone in the house now. Β You can find the pattern right here.

That’s all I have for now. I hope you’re out there enjoying your summer too!

happenings

crocheting
I’ve been doing a bit of crochet on my Hexie Love Actually blanket, I got really excited earlier this month and decided I wanted to get it finished before my birthday at the end of June. BUT, I don’t think I even want to. I thought I was closer to finishing than I actually am, I finished another round and I want it bigger, so that means I need to order a little more yarn again…. and because of that I don’t want to work on it again. Oh well, I’m not going to beat myself up over it! It will get done when it gets done, I’ll be happy whenever that is.

🌻no more letting this one sit for months on end. My goal is to have it finished for my birthday, June 29th! I can do it! πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #hexieloveactually #makersgonnamake

knitting
I’m actually not knitting anything right now. Β I not only finished the pair of socks that I was working on last time I shared my knitting but I started and finished another pair as well!

All the ends are sewn in, so they're officially finished! 😍 they make me happy! #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #nikkislipp #manosdeluruguay

These were so much fun to knit up, I’m so happy with them! The stripes are from a mini set I bought from Nikki Slipp on etsy and the grey is Alegria in the Marshes colorway. The pattern I used for the texture is Hermione’s Everyday Socks.

finished these pretties up! Yarn: @havenfibrearts in Flower Shop Pattern: Lavender Sachet Socks (free on ravelry) #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #havenfibrearts

This next pair that I knit is a yarn from Haven Fibre Arts in her Flower Shop colorway. It was my first time using this yarn, it did not disappoint. Jess does an amazing job dyeing yarn, I’m not always happy with how yarn looks at the gusset because you can tell there’s more stitches by the way the yarn changes but I think with this you really can’t tell at all. It’s perfect and makes me crazy happy! I wanted to only have patterning on the cuff with this yarn, I searched and searched until I finally found the Lavender Sachet pattern, it was exactly what I wanted, I only used the patterning on the cuff and left everything else out.

reading
I just finished reading This Is How it Always Is by Laurie Frankel, IΒ loved this one! It took me a couple of days to find myself officially hooked but it happened and I could not put it down. It makes you go through so many different emotions, so good! This blurb about the book is the only way to really explain without giving too much away:

This Is How It Always Is is a novel about revelations, transformations, fairy tales, and family. And it’s about the ways this is how it always is: Change is always hard and miraculous and hard again, parenting is always a leap into the unknown with crossed fingers and full hearts, children grow but not always according to plan. And families with secrets don’t get to keep them forever.

I’m now just starting to readΒ Do Not Become Alarmed by Maile Meloy. Most of the time, I find it pretty hard to get into a new book after finishing a really amazing one but I’m hoping it won’t be a problem this time.

feeling
I’m feeling irritated by all the blogs that have too many ads on them, they take FOREVER to load! I most often just exit and don’t bother with them anymore, it sucks because there’s patterns I would love to check out but I won’t because of the wait times. I know that I can’t be the only one who feels this way! Just stop!

It’s the weekend now! We have a busy day tomorrow, there’s some fun things happening at the library that should keep us busy most of the day and then we are going mini golfing for my nieces’ birthday. Should be a fun time. I hope everyone out there has a great weekend too!

getting things done (for kids)

I’ve been finishing up some things for the kids lately. First up, this wall hanging I made for my son. He’s interested in everything about the world, he’s constantly on the Maps app just randomly picking out places to look at and learn about. Making a wall hanging from pom poms has been something I’ve wanted to try for quite awhile, I think this was a perfect project to make as practise for what I’d like to eventually make.

I made thisΒ to look like his own little world. It took a lot of yarn to make! I enjoyed the process a lot though! The pom poms are attached to a non slip rug pad that I found at the dollar store. This would be a really good floor rug too but I wanted it to hang over his bed. I backed it with foam board so it wouldn’t be so flimsy. I’m so happy with it! He was really excited when I finally hung it up for him. Now I need to figure out my next pom pom project.

this is what I was doing with all the pom poms! It's a wall hanging for my son's room. He's very into world stuff, so I made this to look like his own little planet. 🌎 I'm really happy that it turned out just how I pictured it! Now I can mo

I also finally worked out some stuffed toy storage for my kids! Something I really should have gotten done months ago, they’ve been living with such messy rooms since we moved in.

For my daughter, I crocheted two hammocks out of some Bernat cotton. I added some pom pom yarn to make them less plain, I think it’s pretty fun! The pom pom yarn is from a discontinued line from Loops & Threads, I’ve had it for years and did nothing with it except use it for gift wrapping sometimes.

I put off making these for months but it's finally done... well almost, she needs a third 😐 my girl doesn't like to get rid of anything! #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #amigurumi #toymakers #ourmakerlife

My son also needed some storage for his stuffed animals. I knew he wouldn’t like the crocheted hammocks, so I just bought a couple sets of wire cubes and stacked them four high. Not crafty but walking by his room and seeing them finally organized makes me so happy! You can see a peek of his birthday blanket that I knit last year πŸ™‚

another kid's stuffed toy situation taken care of! I didn't do anything crafty this time but it's making me happy all the same πŸ˜„

Thanks for the visit today!

life and yarn lately

yarningΒ lately

my #dailyknitsocks and some yarn I'm thinking of winding up to get a new sock cast on, have really missed sock knitting this last month. #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #socktawk #craftastherapy #manosdeluruguay

I cast on that fun pink yarn fromΒ the Flying Kettle, I bought it maybe two years ago, it may be my oldest sockΒ stash yarn. I decided I would knit a pair of shorties for my first pair this year, I also thought I could whip them out pretty quickly but I am knitting pretty slow and only giving myself less than an hour a day to work on them. The slowness is hard but I’m getting used to it and I haven’t felt even a twinge of pain, so I think it will be something I need to stick to if I want to continue knitting socks.

About to turn the second heel finally. It's been hard to knit as slow as I have been, no pain makes it worth it though 😊 #knittersofinstagram #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftastherapy

❀ #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #crochetrabbithole #scrappygranny

I’ve also been working on my granny stripe blanket but it’s set aside for I don’t know how long… I have used up all of my scraps. The blanket has gotten to be a decent size but not big enough to use at all yet, I’m regretting the size I’m making a little right now. I thought about frogging it completely but I realize that’s a whole lot of crazy! (I think) I have mini skeins on the way to me right now and I’m knitting socks again, so at some point, it’ll get finished.

life things lately

Happy Valentines Day! ❀ kids got these freaking adorable cookies this year! Cookies are from @jessievirginia #happyvalentinesday

Valentine’s Day happened last week and I found these super fun cookies to give to my kids this year. They are just the cutest and they were super delicious too. I’m really happy to have found this decorator, I will be ordering from her many more times.

Hard to avoid any water on our walk to and from school now, this one was half way up my shins πŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯ still enjoying the long almost 3km walks twice a day though but I will enjoy it more once it's dried out again

The weather has been getting really nice lately, so we’re walking to school now. I have been keeping track of the walks and I’m walking about 3km twice a day! My legs were not loving it at first but now I’m really enjoying it. The only problem with the good weather is all the melting that’s been happening and the puddles that come with that melting. There’s a lot of avoiding but sometimes you just can’t get around the puddles. This one I avoided one way but took my chances coming back only to find it went half way up my shins. It was not very fun! I’m really ready for everything to finally dry up around here.

Made our way to the game exhibit at WDM today, the oversized controllers were fun! #yxe #wdmsaskatoon

Just this weekend, we made our way to see a game exhibit at our museum and it was so much fun. There were a lot of older games to try out, along with some over-sized controllers to use. We all had a lot of fun, afterward we went through Boom Town, which is a little street with buildings to go inside. I can’t even count the number of times that I have been there, it’s my favorite place to visit. They have a small version of an Eaton house there now that is a lot of fun to see, it’s the same house that my dad grew up in and I lived in for a short amount of time as a kid too. It’s obviously shrunken down and they only have a few rooms to view but I find it cool to see there.

The kids have this week off of school now, so there will hopefully be lots of outside time if the weather keeps being a nice as it has. A library visit will have to be put in somewhere too!

thanks for stopping by today, have a great day!

george

The past weeks haven’t been the greatest around these parts. We have moved and that is great, the move went as well as it could with two kids down with the stomach flu. Made for an even more tiring day but we got through it and everyone is all healthy again thankfully.

You go out for an hour and he acts like you've been gone a week 😿 I don't mind how much he loves though πŸ’“ #georgethecat #catsofinstagram

About a week before we moved, weΒ gaveΒ up our cat George. It was a decision we fought against for months but ultimately it had to be done. My son has an allergy to cats, it was manageable and was only ever really an issue whenever he was sick but after last summer it became an issue for him all of the time. We decided that it was time for himΒ to go before we moved so that our son could move into a place free of animal hair. I can honestly say that we really tried to make it work, though some days I don’t believe it. It has been really rough, George was very attached to me and I was to him as well, he was my constant shadow, my baby, I miss him like crazy.

I haven’t been able to write about this before now, I wanted to but every time I sat to do it, I would lose it. All the people who say “it’s just a cat” would laugh at how well I’ve taken losing him. Ugh. Crappy times. I know it was for the best and one day I will be able to say that without crying.

.

πŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺ #sockblanketmadness #cozymemoriesblanket #georgethecat #catsofinstagramfinished the owls! Every time I make one, I fall in love, they're so cute πŸ’• . . . #crochetaddicts #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #freshstitches #toymakers #crochet #crochetconcupiscence #makersgonnamake #amigurumi #amig

I knit quite a few pairs of socks during the year and if I'm being honest with myself, I'm just not going to wear them all. I've decided to sell a few of them, ones not worn of course, so they will hopefully get some deserved love πŸ’“ I've posted

on my needles today... #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftastherapy #ggknitworthy2016 #husbandsocks

looks like a gigantic sock!! It's really not but the leg is much longer than I intended to knit. The ball is so squishy now and making me worried I won't have enough for the second sock, it may end up with a very long white toe. Fingers crossed it won't!

Cheeseburger cupcakes for the birthday girl! 12 years old!! The cupcakes actually turned out better than I expected them to, not great but not terrible either! πŸ‘

Gosh, it’s been quite some time since I last sat down to write here, I barely know where to start. I’ve been feeling off again, I hate writing that or saying that because I don’t even know how to say what it is… It just is. Such a frustrating time. I wish I could say I’m fully out of that head space, oh how I wish, I’m getting there though. but, I keep myself busy mostly, as you can see above.

My sister asked me to crochet some baby gifts, she’s my best customer! The owls I crocheted turned out crazy adorable, I love them every time I make them and I love that they’re still my sister’s go to for baby showers. The pattern for them can be found on ravelry here.

I listed socks to sell on instagram (caseysknitsocks). Selling my socks is something that is never on my mind when I knit. I’m sure the way I’m feeling is what pushed me to do it. I’m still okay with parting with some of my socks. I listed socks I knit this year and never wore because of box of socks KAL. I will not being doing a KAL like that again, it’s definitely a fun idea but I want to go back to knitting and instantly wearing again, that makes me happier.

This Christmas, my husband is getting two pairs of socks, maybe three if my hand doesn’t start hurting too much. I have given him one pair for the last two years, but I decided to try more after he mentioned that he doesn’t have enough knit socks. He’s been wearing the ones I knit a lot in the last couple months, so I think he’s finally found the love for the hand knits. I know he liked them before but he wasn’t wearing them as often as now.

I started a pair with Patons Kroy last month but then I was gifted some Gingerbread House by The Cozy Knitter and I knew I had to make that a pair for him. He’s much more in love with Christmas than me! So, if I can get through these socks without causing myself too much pain, I’ll go back to finishing the Patons Kroy as well. The pattern I’m using for the striping socks is Optio, I knit the leg longer than I intended and now the ball of yarn is massively squishy, I’m hoping I can get the same amount of stripes on the second sock!

This week is birthday week in our house, my oldest daughter turned 12 on Tuesday and today my youngest daughter turns 10. Two of my children are double digits, that just seems plain crazy! My oldest loves her cheeseburgers, so I made cheeseburger cupcakes. They turned out pretty cool, not amazing but I’m impressed with myself! My 10 year old got her ears pierced yesterday, something she’s been wanting for years! We told her a long time ago that she could do it once she was 10 and she did not forget, she started reminding us a couple weeks ago, too funny.

Anyway, thanks for stopping in today! Hope you have good weather where you are, today with the windchill, it’s going to be -32. I love the cold but we have no snow, so I’m not enjoying it as much yet! Have a great day πŸ™‚

happy things

I like to put together these posts once in awhile because sometimes I focus on too much of the bad things going on around me and it makes me feel miserable. Seeing that there really are some good things actually happening help me beat that feeling.

the fringe
henna tattoos with my girls again! No line at the tent tonight 😊 #yxefringe

We went down to the Fringe in town a couple times this last week and saw some good shows, the @undeadnewlyweds were definitely our favorite act though! πŸ’€ #yxefringe

The Fringe is my favorite annual summer event in the city, we went down to see acts a couple times last week. The henna tent was busy, so we didn’t get to it until our last visit. These tattoos are lasting much longer than our Canada Day ones. We managed to catch a few acts while there too, the Undead Newlyweds were our favorite this year, we hope they’ll be back again next year.

sock knitting
had a productive knitting day even with a headache that knocked me out for awhile 😡 finished up the first sock for my husband and finally cast on the second of my cables & lace socks #knittersofinstagram #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftast

ignoring the housework that needs to be done to knit my sock #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #manosdeluruguay

I’ve been making good progress on my socks, ignoring housework to do so too. The Cable & Lace socks are very close to being finished.

Putting together the ‘My Yarn Story‘ post was a lot of fun, I enjoyed going back and seeing all the projects I’ve made. The toys were especially fun to see, I hope to get making toys more often again.
