cough. cough.

has it really been that long since I sat down to write here? I just checked and it’s been longer than I thought it was. We are heavy into allergy season, so I am hiding away indoors today because I ran out of my allergy meds and forgot to pick some up yesterday. Ugh. don’t do that! So, I’m sitting here trying not to scratch my skin off and blowing my nose constantly. The medicine I do take hasn’t been working all that great but now that I have nothing in my system, I know that it was doing a little bit of good.

Anyway.

My lumpectomy in April went well, all the tests came back completely clear, what they thought could be hiding something turned out to be a radial scar. My surgeon told me I was good to just go on with life, no repeat mammogram in a year will be needed either because my cyst is gone as well. There are still small ones but as long as they don’t grow too big or cause me pain, I should be done with mammograms until my 50’s.

In knitting and crafting life, I have finished up a few things since I last posted.

not exactly a pair but close enough! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜„

I knit three pairs of socks for myself. The sock on the left is the Blueberry Waffle pattern in the Princess Tiger Cub colorway by Flock Fibre Studio. The right sock is Mulberry Cream in the Buttercup colorway by Vivid Yarn Studio. I bought both yarns at last year’s Fiber Frolic in Edmonton, I didn’t make it there this year but next year I’ll make sure to get time off work to drive out there.

Finished my stripey socks today too! I love these stripes! the amazing yarn came from @thewoolbaron #craftastherapy #stripeysockskal2018 #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk

I also knit a pair of vanilla socks with some awesome stripey yarn from The Wool Baron in her Crazy Confident colorway. I saw this yarn knit up by another knitter on Instagram and immediately bought myself a skein, it’s so much fun! I also crocheted that black & white pillow recently, it’s just granny squares joined into one big one and then I joined the edges together to fit a pillow in. I have wanted to crochet a pillow in this style for so long, I am so happy with how it looks finished. I am thinking of crocheting a matching one soon.

finished my Fibery Friends sampler today πŸ’• it's so pretty and it was my first project done on linen, which made me nervous but it really is just like evenweave! ‍♀️ now, I can buy all the pretty linen for future projects!

Lastly, just today I finished stitching up this fun Fibery Friends sampler. I’ll be finishing it off in a hoop once I buy a small enough one for it. It was my first time stitching on linen, I always heard that it’s just like stitching on evenweave and I guess I didn’t know if I should believe the people saying that but it really is. And now I can’t wait to buy some more linen to use for future projects.

That’s most of the catching up I had today. I think. Allergies muddle my head so much, I can’t really remember!

Talk later!

knitting:

fresh off the needles! πŸ’œ yarn is @knit_picks Felici in the Ever After color way pattern is a vanilla with a FLK heel

I finished a second pair of Knit Picks Felici socks, this pair is for my 11 year old daughter. She said she’d really like a pair too after I finished the socks for her sister. She put them on as soon as I finished and has been wearing them a lot already.

after almost four years of knitting, it's now 195 squares big πŸ’– probably a few more years to go

I finished knitting some squares into my cozy memories blanket to square it off. It’s now at 195 squares, still not big enough but I’m still so happy having this one to pull out every so often.

I’ve also finally got a sock on the needles for me! not pictured right now, it’s a blueberry waffle sock in some gorgeous Flock Fibre Studio yarn.

crocheting:

my magic ball seems big enough to let me crochet on this for a good while! it's been almost a year since I've had it out #craftastherapy #crochetrabbithole #crochetersofinstagram

I pulled out my scrappy granny stripe blanket recently because I thought the magic ball I was making was finally big enough to use for quite awhile. It shrank so fast sadly! I’ll be putting it aside again soon 😦

trying to get the hang of tapestry crochet today

I’ve had this bunny pattern in my ravelry queue for quite a long time and I decided it was time to finally crochet it. It’s done as tapestry crochet, not hard at all but it took me a little bit to get the hang of keeping the tension on my yarn consistent. You can see in the face that I was struggling a bit but I didn’t want to rip back, so it’s staying that way. I’m really excited to see this one finished! I just need to stick to working on one thing.

reading:

I just finished reading Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. I loved the book so much! I really took my time with it because I just didn’t want it to end. It reminds me a little of the book Homegoing but it doesn’t go through as many generations as that book and everyone in the book knows each other.

After finishing Pachinko, I picked up The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. I only read about 1/4 of the book, it’s not terrible, it’s actually quite good but it’s so crazy and sometime unbelieveable that I just couldn’t keep reading it.

life:

My last update about my biopsy has an update, not a great one. I do have to go in for a lumpectomy in April now, it’s not my cyst they want to remove but the area next to it. The radiologists say that there wasn’t enough sample taken and they can’t see enough of it that it would just be safer to remove it just in case. I’m keeping myself positive because I really do still believe that there’s nothing major to worry about. Surgeries don’t happen so quickly here, so the fact that it’s moving so fast is a little unnerving but I’m trying to ignore that! It will all be totally fine.

Anyway, the kids are about to be off for Spring Break this week. I’m hoping this week that no kids will be sick, my nephew will be over with us and I have a couple fun outings planned. Also, I’m hoping it will warm up for next week, we’re back in the cold again, -26 with the windchill. blech! Spring needs to just stick around here already.

all the projects

I thought it was about time I stepped in for a little update since it’s been a little bit. I went in to get my biopsy results a couple weeks ago now and everything came back clear, the suspicious area turned out to be more cysts starting up. No surgery is needed thankfully!Β  I just need to go in for a follow up mammogram in a year and then hopefully that’s it until my 50s.

February has been quite a productive month, I have three projects finished!

finished this piece yesterday! πŸ’œ I used a skein of Caron Big Cakes in the grape jelly color way and crocheted a round ripple until it was large enough to stretch onto a hula hoop. It's for my oldest who had been asking for something mandala-l

I finished the round ripple that I was crocheting last time, I got over not liking the color changes as soon as I finished! I crocheted until it was big enough to stretch over a hula hoop. When I first started the project, I thought that I would round off the points before attaching but decided against it and I think it looks amazing this way! My daughter had been asking me to make her a mandala to hang over her bed for the longest time and I could just not decide on one to crochet, so this is what I finally made for her, she’s really happy with it.

now that they've been gifted, I can fully share these finished socks that I knit for my mom's birthday 🎁 yarn: Patons Kroy in blue raspberry pattern: vanilla. I get bored of vanilla easily but this yarn was too fun for that πŸ’™πŸ’œ

2018-02-25_07-55-58

My mom’s birthday socks were finished with plenty of time to spare. I thought knitting her socks would take me longer because she’s a size 11, but it didn’t, I think the fun yarn helped keep the knitting interesting. The yarn is Paton’s Kroy in the blue raspberry colorway, I used 2.5 skeins for the pair. Before I gifted them to her, I wrapped them with a fun tag from Pearadise Island, it’s such a fun way to present socks!

IMG_20180226_125144_759

I finished up another pair of socks! I knit them for the Rainbow-A-Long in the Suburban Stitcher group on ravelry. These are for my oldest daughter, they’re her first pair of hand knit socks from me! Her feet are only 1.5 sizes smaller than mine, so not so kid sized but they were super fast to get off the needles after knitting my mom’s pair. I knit the cuff in the same style as the Jelly Roll socks but knit ribbing instead and I absolutely love the look! The rainbow yarn is Knit Picks Felici and the white is the Stroll Tonal in the pearlescent colorway.

I really wish I could just crochet all day long without worrying about hand pain, all I want to do is work on this! πŸ’œπŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ‘΅

My next project isn’t finished and has been a work in progress for a really long time. sort of. I started crocheting little granny squares out of sock yarn a couple years ago without any real plans in mind. Last week, I got the idea in my head to start joining them with black yarn. I am super in love with how it’s looking already! I want to finish it into a dresser runner for my bedroom. I have over 100 squares but I’m not sure it will even actually be enough, so I may be making more before this becomes a FO.

All I want to do now is crochet my granny squares together but I have a toy to finish up before a baby shower next weekend. I’ve had the toy in progress for months but I’ve had such a hard time finishing because I can’t get the face to look how I want. Hopefully I can get it figured out in time, maybe deadline pressure will help!

Thanks for stopping in today!

Casey

hello! Happy February! Life around these parts has been quiet for the most part, we’re being hit with cold weather again which is making me want to stay inside with my knitting or crochet. Tonight though, I am taking my daughter to our first high school open house, she has two that she really wants to check out this month. The whole choosing a high school is a new experience for me, so I have no real good advice to help her out unfortunately. I didn’t grow up in the city, so we just went to the school closest to us. We live right across from the school we’re checking out tonight, so that would be a very convenient place for her but I don’t think they have the programs she really wants, I’m hoping these open houses will make it easier for her to finally make a choice though.

I’ve also been trying to keep my mind as busy as I can. Last week I went to the Breast Center and I had a biopsy done. Phew, that felt strange to write out. I’m not really that worried about it being bad news but every so often those not so great feelings will creep in. I found a lump in my breast a couple days before Christmas, after a mammogram and ultrasound, the doctor told me it was a cyst, a big one that needed to be biopsied. So, last week I had that done, they actually took samples of two areas, the cyst and a suspicious looking area. I wasn’t expecting so much to be done, so that made me nervous, in total, they took 8 samples. The actual biopsy wasn’t painful but the next two days were a little painful. Next week, I go in for my results which I’m sure won’t say anything bad but it will be nice to have more information.

Anyway…. I have been doing a bit of everything really in the last month to keep my mind clear.

socks that don't match perfectly are best! πŸ˜„ . . . . . #knittersofinstagram #socktawk #sockknittersofinstagram #craftastherapy #patonskroy #makersgonnamake #yarnspirations

new project πŸ’œ #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #caroncakes #makersgonnamake

I’ve started and quit a few projects, these two are the ones still going so far. The socks I am knitting as a for my mom’s birthday, I’m using Paton’s Kroy in the Blue Raspberry colorway. I’m also doing some crochet, it’s a round ripple out of one of the Caron Big Cakes. I’m not a huge fan of the way the color is changing but I’m going to keep going and hopefully it will end up not bothering me too much when it’s done.

That’s about it today, the kids will be back from school soon and hopefully I’ll have some fresh bread ready for them from my new bread maker. It’s my first time using it, so fingers crossed that it turns out!

Talk later!

I got a good amount of Christmas crafting finished this year! I honestly didn’t think I would do any this year but something just came over me in November and it’s all I wanted to do.

another Christmas project finished! I didn't think I'd actually finish him this year but I hunkered down during my oldest's sleepover party to finish this weekend. I'm not super happy with the finish, my embroidery sucks and I seriously overstuffed BUT I

I found this pattern last year, I wanted to make it then but didn’t, I’m really happy that I managed to do it now though. He turned out pretty darn cute! My embroidery sucks and I way over stuffed him but he’s sweet and I can get over those things. He’s already flattened out a good amount, so I think when he comes out again next year, I’ll like him more! The pattern for the Santa Countdown Pillow isΒ here on ravelry.

πŸŽ…finished this one last week! I loved stitching this project so much, @stitchrovia patterns are always so much fun to do πŸ’• #crossstitchersofinstagram #craftastherapy #stitchrovia #santaclausiscomingtotown

I also did some Christmasy cross stitching. This pattern is by Stitchrovia, I really enjoy her patterns! I stitched this one up pretty quickly, it wasnt easy to put aside. I framed it but I need to do a better job soon, I rushed it a little so I could get it hung up for the season.

πŸŽ„one more Christmas project done! next pair going on the needles ASAP but first a little rest for my arm, finishing all these projects caused some pain flare up πŸ˜₯ #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk

πŸŽ„finished the second pair! I won't have a pair for myself this year but that's ok with me, making them for other people makes me more happy! πŸ˜„πŸ˜„ . . #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #christm

I also knit up two pairs of socks from the fun Candy Cane sock yarn that I bought from West Yorkshire Spinners. The first pair is my husbands, a plain vanilla and the second pair I knit for my sister. I added a small bit of texture with some purling to the last pair, vanilla knitting feels boring to me sometimes, even with the fun striping. I didn’t get around to making myself a pair from the yarn and I’m not actually sure that I will be, I think that I want to knit something different with the remaining yarn.

2017 Christmas ornaments!

And finally, I crocheted some new ornaments for my kids! I used this free mini tree pattern from Spin a Yarn Crochet. I really like her style of pattens, I’d like to try out some more of them next year I think. I didn’t add much to the trees, just a yellow star to the top, I didn’t think it needed much else. As usual, I made four ornaments, one for each of my kids and my nephew. I hope that I can keep up the tradition of the ornaments being handmade each year for a long time, it’s one of my favorite things to do!

That’s it for my my Christmas crafting this year! I’m so ready to work on some different projects now.

recent projects

hello! It’s definitely fall here now and I am enjoying it as much as I can. We don’t usually get much of a long fall where I live but it seems to be sticking this year, it’s amazing!

I’m still enjoying work, I’ve lost 10lbs since I started, so I’m pretty happy about that! Kids are doing good, I took my son in for allergy testing last week because he reacted to some food and his toothpaste this summer. He’s allergic to most animals and outdoors but no food! The doctor was awful but we got some answers, that was the good part at least.

Anyway, on to what I’ve been making! I crocheted a couple toys for a project called Toys for Syrian Refugee Children. I crocheted the lion and a bear, I wanted to crochet more but I lost a bit of mojo again. I’m happy to be sending something off though!

done with a lion for @chubbyknots_crochet #toysforsyrianrefugeechildren #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #crochetaddict #toymakers #amigurumi #amigurumilove #makersgonnamake

another toy for @chubbyknots_crochet 🐻 this time a bear #toysforsyrianrefugeechildren #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #crochetaddict #amigurumilove #toymakers #amigurumi #makersgonnamake

I’m also knitting again! I decided that I wanted to make myself some fingerless mittens from the yarn I purchased from MidKnit Cravings. I’m using DPNs and I haven’t been feeling too much pain using them, so I think I may need to invest in more of them so I can get back to knitting socks.

I have a finished glove! πŸ˜„ I used the Blueberry Waffles stitch pattern for it but other than that, I just winged it. I'm really happy that it worked out how I wanted it to and that I didn't have to frog at all once I got the stitch count figured out

I finished one mitt this weekend, I’m really happy with how it turned out, I can’t wait to have the pair finished! I’m using the Blueberry Waffles stitch pattern but no pattern for the actual mitt. Getting the stitch count right was the only small issue I had but I got it and had no problems afterwards. The yarn is fun to knit with, it screams fall to me!

what’s happening

Looks like it’s been a month since I last posted. Summer is over and the kids have been back in school for a few weeks now. This school year seems like it’s going to be a lot more busy than previous years, lots of clubs have been joined already. My oldest is in her final year of elementary school and they already let us know lots would be happening, today she went off for her first camping trip of the school year, there will be one more closer to summer too. My other daughter has started band which is not what we had planned on for her, we really didn’t want this extra distraction for her when she struggles so hard already. But, apparently every other kid in her grade joined this year, so the teachers had nothing prepared for her to do and so it’s been forced on us. Finding an instrument for her was quite the ordeal, I finally have one coming in from out of province for her to use.

I’ve also started back to work this month! After 12 years of not working! It was something I thought about trying to do for quite awhile but I really didn’t make any serious plans for it because my anxiety would always make me freak out, so I’d stop thinking about it. Anyway, I decided to try out housekeeping again, I figured that since it was familiar already it wouldn’t be so scary. The first place I called hired me right away and I’ve been doing part time work for a few weeks now. I want to try some schooling soon though because I do not want to do this type of work forever! I actually enjoy it somewhat, it keeps me active which I loveΒ but it’s gross at times…

Since I last posted, my mind has been in such a better place. I think that going to work has really helped me. Meeting new people and talking to guests hasn’t been as scary as I worried it might be, I’m actually finding myself getting more comfortable around people again. I feel a little like I should have gone back to work years ago, I probably could have avoided some of the painful anxiety I’ve had over the years.

When I was feeling really not great, I decided to start crocheting something. I had no real plans and just crocheted, I ended up making a teddy bear. He turned out pretty darn cute. I used some Paton’s Kroy yarn that I had in my stash for quite awhile. I found crocheting him to be so relaxing and it helped keep my mind clear. I think I always forget how good crochet is for my mind. I’m going to be crocheting more toys, I’ve said it before but I have a couple on the go right now that I’ll share at some point, no pictures yet.

πŸ»πŸ’— making toys is something I really need to get back to doing more of, I've missed it. it puts my mind in such a better place and that's nice because I've been feeling all kinds of shitty this year. . I used some sock yarn to make this gu

I also started a sock but it’s stalled, my hand hurts when I knit on it too much. I knit a rolled cuff, my favorite and I’m knitting a random cable down the side. I really hope that I can get over the pain from sock knitting so I can continue with it.

I'm knitting a sock! but my hand hurts already β˜ΉπŸ‘Ž #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy

Even though I am having pain from sock knitting, I went out and bought some sock yarn. My LYS started carrying MidKnit Cravings yarn, so I went in to buy a skein, I picked up Girl Next Door and also had to grab a skein of Alegria. They look like they’d go well together! They won’t go together but they probably could. The owners of MidKnit Cravings had a popup sale at a really great cafe downtown also, so I had to get down to it to buy myself a skein of their new colorway Pumpkin Spice Latte. I’m not a fan of the drink but I think the yarn is gorgeous!

I haven't knit any socks this summer but that didn't stop me from going to @prairielilyknitting when I saw that @midknitcravings yarn was there! I had to get myself a skein and of course I couldn't resist some new Allegria too. #yarnporn #manosdeluruguay

really not feeling well today but I had to make my way down to see @midknitcravings at their pop-up today, so I could get my hands on this Pumpkin Spice Latte! not a fan of the drink but this yarn is so beautiful, it's going on my needles soon! it was so

Well, I think that’s all I have to say today. I will hopefully get to posting more semi-regularly again now, a month between posts makes me feel like I can’t remember what I want to write when I sit down to blog. We’ll see how I do! Thanks for stopping by and reading today!
