crocheting
I’ve been doing a bit of crochet on my Hexie Love Actually blanket, I got really excited earlier this month and decided I wanted to get it finished before my birthday at the end of June. BUT, I don’t think I even want to. I thought I was closer to finishing than I actually am, I finished another round and I want it bigger, so that means I need to order a little more yarn again…. and because of that I don’t want to work on it again. Oh well, I’m not going to beat myself up over it! It will get done when it gets done, I’ll be happy whenever that is.

🌻no more letting this one sit for months on end. My goal is to have it finished for my birthday, June 29th! I can do it! 💪💪 #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #hexieloveactually #makersgonnamake

knitting
I’m actually not knitting anything right now.  I not only finished the pair of socks that I was working on last time I shared my knitting but I started and finished another pair as well!

All the ends are sewn in, so they're officially finished! 😍 they make me happy! #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #nikkislipp #manosdeluruguay

These were so much fun to knit up, I’m so happy with them! The stripes are from a mini set I bought from Nikki Slipp on etsy and the grey is Alegria in the Marshes colorway. The pattern I used for the texture is Hermione’s Everyday Socks.

finished these pretties up! Yarn: @havenfibrearts in Flower Shop Pattern: Lavender Sachet Socks (free on ravelry) #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #havenfibrearts

This next pair that I knit is a yarn from Haven Fibre Arts in her Flower Shop colorway. It was my first time using this yarn, it did not disappoint. Jess does an amazing job dyeing yarn, I’m not always happy with how yarn looks at the gusset because you can tell there’s more stitches by the way the yarn changes but I think with this you really can’t tell at all. It’s perfect and makes me crazy happy! I wanted to only have patterning on the cuff with this yarn, I searched and searched until I finally found the Lavender Sachet pattern, it was exactly what I wanted, I only used the patterning on the cuff and left everything else out.

reading
I just finished reading This Is How it Always Is by Laurie Frankel, I loved this one! It took me a couple of days to find myself officially hooked but it happened and I could not put it down. It makes you go through so many different emotions, so good! This blurb about the book is the only way to really explain without giving too much away:

This Is How It Always Is is a novel about revelations, transformations, fairy tales, and family. And it’s about the ways this is how it always is: Change is always hard and miraculous and hard again, parenting is always a leap into the unknown with crossed fingers and full hearts, children grow but not always according to plan. And families with secrets don’t get to keep them forever.

I’m now just starting to read Do Not Become Alarmed by Maile Meloy. Most of the time, I find it pretty hard to get into a new book after finishing a really amazing one but I’m hoping it won’t be a problem this time.

feeling
I’m feeling irritated by all the blogs that have too many ads on them, they take FOREVER to load! I most often just exit and don’t bother with them anymore, it sucks because there’s patterns I would love to check out but I won’t because of the wait times. I know that I can’t be the only one who feels this way! Just stop!

It’s the weekend now! We have a busy day tomorrow, there’s some fun things happening at the library that should keep us busy most of the day and then we are going mini golfing for my nieces’ birthday. Should be a fun time. I hope everyone out there has a great weekend too!

getting things done (for kids)

I’ve been finishing up some things for the kids lately. First up, this wall hanging I made for my son. He’s interested in everything about the world, he’s constantly on the Maps app just randomly picking out places to look at and learn about. Making a wall hanging from pom poms has been something I’ve wanted to try for quite awhile, I think this was a perfect project to make as practise for what I’d like to eventually make.

I made this to look like his own little world. It took a lot of yarn to make! I enjoyed the process a lot though! The pom poms are attached to a non slip rug pad that I found at the dollar store. This would be a really good floor rug too but I wanted it to hang over his bed. I backed it with foam board so it wouldn’t be so flimsy. I’m so happy with it! He was really excited when I finally hung it up for him. Now I need to figure out my next pom pom project.

this is what I was doing with all the pom poms! It's a wall hanging for my son's room. He's very into world stuff, so I made this to look like his own little planet. 🌎 I'm really happy that it turned out just how I pictured it! Now I can mo

I also finally worked out some stuffed toy storage for my kids! Something I really should have gotten done months ago, they’ve been living with such messy rooms since we moved in.

For my daughter, I crocheted two hammocks out of some Bernat cotton. I added some pom pom yarn to make them less plain, I think it’s pretty fun! The pom pom yarn is from a discontinued line from Loops & Threads, I’ve had it for years and did nothing with it except use it for gift wrapping sometimes.

I put off making these for months but it's finally done... well almost, she needs a third 😐 my girl doesn't like to get rid of anything! #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #amigurumi #toymakers #ourmakerlife

My son also needed some storage for his stuffed animals. I knew he wouldn’t like the crocheted hammocks, so I just bought a couple sets of wire cubes and stacked them four high. Not crafty but walking by his room and seeing them finally organized makes me so happy! You can see a peek of his birthday blanket that I knit last year 🙂

another kid's stuffed toy situation taken care of! I didn't do anything crafty this time but it's making me happy all the same 😄

Thanks for the visit today!

crafting all over the place

crochet
I crocheted up a little unicorn last week, using a pattern from Fresh Stitches, Clarita the Pig. I made some small changes to turn it into a unicorn. The yarn is Hawthorn & Wool in her Unicorn colorway, I bought the yarn with the intention to crochet this Fatty Lumpkin pattern. I crocheted some of it but decided I didn’t actually like how it was turning out, so I tried to find a new pattern, took me awhile but once this pattern came along, I decided to use it. The hair is made from a fun fur I found in a remnants bag from Michaels, I have a lot more of the stuff and am looking for something to make with it. The unicorn is quite small but I’m really happy with how she turned out.

it's a wee unicorn 💖💖 Pattern: Clarita the Pig by @staceytrock I obviously made small changes to make it a unicorn 😀 Yarn: @hawthornandwool in her Unicorn colorway #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftasth

knitting
New socks are also on my needles, my needles have sat empty for a couple weeks and I felt the need to finally change that. I’m using a set of rainbow neon minis from NikkiSlipp on etsy and a skein of Alegria in the Marshes colorway.

I have no socks on the needles, going to change that this morning #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #craftastherapy #socktawk #makersgonnamake

I wasn’t sure how I was going to knit these socks, I just cast on and went with whatever flew off my needles. I ended up striping the minis at the top and then switching to the Hermione’s Everyday Socks pattern. I am so in love with how the sock is looking!

I had no solid plans when I cast on but I'm very happy with where I've ended up 💕 #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #nikkislipp #manosdeluruguay

other yarn goodness
I have been dreaming up projects using pom poms for quite some time but I hadn’t figured out if it would work how I picture it. So, I’m making a little project right now to try it out. It’s going to be for my son and I’m actually very excited about how it’s turning out right now, I’m excited for it to be finished.

working with pom poms again #craftastherapy #pompom #makersgonnamake

This week, we’re getting ready to take a small trip to Edmonton. I found out that the Edmonton Fiber Frolic is happening the same day I will be in town, so I’m excited about checking it out. I have never been able to make it to an event like it before. I’m hoping that the weather gets better for our drive out on Friday, right now it’s storming and raining off and on with quite a few different warnings for the next couple days happening. I’m not a fan of driving on the highway in the rain, so fingers crossed that it is over by then!

Thanks for stopping in! Hope you have a great rest of your week.

a real life finished blanket!

I had some crappy internet troubles again last week (so close to switching providers), so I couldn’t post about the projects I got finished. I feel like I have been so terrible at finishing off projects, blankets especially, that I was pretty excited that I finished pretty close to when I wanted them done.

pom poms 💕 #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #ratschebohohippieblankie #caroncakes

I was addicted to this blanket I crocheted using Caron Cakes. I think I would like to make this pattern again but with different yarn. I’d also make it much bigger, this one ended up 45X45 inches, definitely not big at all. My oldest likes it for curling up under when she’s on the couch though, so it’s being used!

It's done! This was a fun one to put together 😊 Each section is a full Caron Cake, I used the Rainbow Sprinkles colorway. I would happily crochet this type of blanket again! The pattern is from @ratschebutsch under the #ratschebohohippieblankietutor

The pattern for the blanket can be found under the hashtag #ratschebohohippieblankietutorial on instagram. I used a skein of Caron Cakes in the Rainbow Sprinkles colorway for each section of the blanket, I had very tiny leftovers from three of them. For the border, I used almost an entire skein of white Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn. The pattern for the border is free and can be found here.

Fresh off the needles to start the week! pattern: Socks on a Plane yarn: @hawthornandwool in Drift #knittersofinstagram #socktawk #hawthornandwool #socksonaplane #craftastherapy

I also managed to get my socks finished! The pattern is Socks on a Plane and it’s free on ravelry. I knit this pattern once before but gifted the finished socks, so I’m really happy I now I have a pair for myself. I love knitting this pattern, the cable is simple enough that this move pretty quick off the needles. Yarn is by Hawthorn & Wool in the Drift colorway, a local to me yarn. The dyer owns a shop in a town close to me, I visit it as often as I can, it’s beautiful. She’s a florist and does beautiful arrangements, I haven’t got one because my allergies are crazy rough but I have gotten a couple plants from her, I will suck it up at some point, her arrangements are really that gorgeous.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got today. It’s grey and chilly out, so it’s making my brain feel a bit foggy. Hope the weather is sunnier where you are! Thanks for stopping in!

weekend plans

My husband is back from work this weekend and all next week but I think I can squeeze in some time for crocheting and knitting. I would like to be outside though if I can, the weather is supposed to be really good, in the 30’s (celcius). All week my allergies have been fighting against me being out there too long though. darn the growing season! I have allergies all year long but right now is really a crappy time for them.

after too many starts and frogs with this yarn, I feel like I finally found its project! #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #ratschebohohippieblankie #caroncakes

I started a blanket using my Caron Cakes yarn. I have started more than a few projects using it, so I’m happy that I finally found the project it wanted to be. I’m not entirely following the pattern that I found for this, it’s super easy so I only looked at it and started crocheting. It is under the hashtag #ratschebohohippieblankietutorial if you’re interested in it.

this and listening to S-town plus a noisy robin digging right by my open window. #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #ratschebohohippieblankie #potatochipcrochet

I’m really enjoying this project, it’s hard to put aside for any length of time. Granny stitches really are potato chip crochet! When I finally landed on this project, I thought it might be cool to have each section exactly the same but each skein starts and ends on different colors. I’m fine with them not being identical, I think it will still look really cool.

Maybe I'll have another pair of socks after the weekend? #knittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #hawthornandwool #socksonaplane

I’d also like to work on these socks. I had planned on finishing last weekend but my arm acted up too much, so I set them to the side. There’s only a couple cables and a toe to finish now. I’ll be happy to have this pair to wear!

I hope that your weather is good where you are and that you can enjoy your weekend! Thanks for stopping in!

call me grandma

My husband has jokingly called me ‘grandma‘ for years because I’m always knitting or crocheting. I’ve always said that he could start saying that if I ever start crocheting doilies. Well…

first doily! It turned out really pretty, am definitely going to crochet more doilies 👵💓 #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #doily #makersgonnamake #crochetconcupiscence

Yep, I started crocheting doilies! I started with the doily above, it’s a free pattern called Textured Treasure. I didn’t use the called for 1.75mm hook because that’s just too tiny for me, I used a 2.75mm hook instead. It took me a couple days to finish and I adore the finished product! I don’t normally like to block much but I made sure to block it out the best I could, blocking really helps a doily out!

new doily in progress 😍 I bought a book of doily patterns today so I won't have to search far for my next pattern #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #doily #makersgonnamake #crochetconcupiscence

After my first doily, I searched and searched for my next one. It took a few days to choose but I ended up choosing Debbie by Patricia Kristofferson (paid pattern). I ran out of thread for this one because I used larger hook size again. I went back to buy more of the thread but they were sold out of this one, so it’s going to be sitting and waiting a little while before it gets finished. My hand needs the rest from the small stitching for awhile anyway.

not enough thread to finish 😕 I guess my hand could use the rest anyway... #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #doily #makersgonnamake #crochetconcupiscence

I’m thinking about crocheting my next doily with a sock yarn from my stash, I think that would be a fun idea. I’m so excited about these doilies! I just need to figure out what I’m going to do with them all now.

life and yarn lately

yarning lately

my #dailyknitsocks and some yarn I'm thinking of winding up to get a new sock cast on, have really missed sock knitting this last month. #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #socktawk #craftastherapy #manosdeluruguay

I cast on that fun pink yarn from the Flying Kettle, I bought it maybe two years ago, it may be my oldest sock stash yarn. I decided I would knit a pair of shorties for my first pair this year, I also thought I could whip them out pretty quickly but I am knitting pretty slow and only giving myself less than an hour a day to work on them. The slowness is hard but I’m getting used to it and I haven’t felt even a twinge of pain, so I think it will be something I need to stick to if I want to continue knitting socks.

About to turn the second heel finally. It's been hard to knit as slow as I have been, no pain makes it worth it though 😊 #knittersofinstagram #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftastherapy

❤ #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #crochetrabbithole #scrappygranny

I’ve also been working on my granny stripe blanket but it’s set aside for I don’t know how long… I have used up all of my scraps. The blanket has gotten to be a decent size but not big enough to use at all yet, I’m regretting the size I’m making a little right now. I thought about frogging it completely but I realize that’s a whole lot of crazy! (I think) I have mini skeins on the way to me right now and I’m knitting socks again, so at some point, it’ll get finished.

life things lately

Happy Valentines Day! ❤ kids got these freaking adorable cookies this year! Cookies are from @jessievirginia #happyvalentinesday

Valentine’s Day happened last week and I found these super fun cookies to give to my kids this year. They are just the cutest and they were super delicious too. I’m really happy to have found this decorator, I will be ordering from her many more times.

Hard to avoid any water on our walk to and from school now, this one was half way up my shins 😥😥 still enjoying the long almost 3km walks twice a day though but I will enjoy it more once it's dried out again

The weather has been getting really nice lately, so we’re walking to school now. I have been keeping track of the walks and I’m walking about 3km twice a day! My legs were not loving it at first but now I’m really enjoying it. The only problem with the good weather is all the melting that’s been happening and the puddles that come with that melting. There’s a lot of avoiding but sometimes you just can’t get around the puddles. This one I avoided one way but took my chances coming back only to find it went half way up my shins. It was not very fun! I’m really ready for everything to finally dry up around here.

Made our way to the game exhibit at WDM today, the oversized controllers were fun! #yxe #wdmsaskatoon

Just this weekend, we made our way to see a game exhibit at our museum and it was so much fun. There were a lot of older games to try out, along with some over-sized controllers to use. We all had a lot of fun, afterward we went through Boom Town, which is a little street with buildings to go inside. I can’t even count the number of times that I have been there, it’s my favorite place to visit. They have a small version of an Eaton house there now that is a lot of fun to see, it’s the same house that my dad grew up in and I lived in for a short amount of time as a kid too. It’s obviously shrunken down and they only have a few rooms to view but I find it cool to see there.

The kids have this week off of school now, so there will hopefully be lots of outside time if the weather keeps being a nice as it has. A library visit will have to be put in somewhere too!

thanks for stopping by today, have a great day!
♥ Casey
