life and yarn lately

yarningΒ lately

my #dailyknitsocks and some yarn I'm thinking of winding up to get a new sock cast on, have really missed sock knitting this last month. #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #socktawk #craftastherapy #manosdeluruguay

I cast on that fun pink yarn fromΒ the Flying Kettle, I bought it maybe two years ago, it may be my oldest sockΒ stash yarn. I decided I would knit a pair of shorties for my first pair this year, I also thought I could whip them out pretty quickly but I am knitting pretty slow and only giving myself less than an hour a day to work on them. The slowness is hard but I’m getting used to it and I haven’t felt even a twinge of pain, so I think it will be something I need to stick to if I want to continue knitting socks.

About to turn the second heel finally. It's been hard to knit as slow as I have been, no pain makes it worth it though 😊 #knittersofinstagram #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftastherapy

❀ #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #crochetrabbithole #scrappygranny

I’ve also been working on my granny stripe blanket but it’s set aside for I don’t know how long… I have used up all of my scraps. The blanket has gotten to be a decent size but not big enough to use at all yet, I’m regretting the size I’m making a little right now. I thought about frogging it completely but I realize that’s a whole lot of crazy! (I think) I have mini skeins on the way to me right now and I’m knitting socks again, so at some point, it’ll get finished.

life things lately

Happy Valentines Day! ❀ kids got these freaking adorable cookies this year! Cookies are from @jessievirginia #happyvalentinesday

Valentine’s Day happened last week and I found these super fun cookies to give to my kids this year. They are just the cutest and they were super delicious too. I’m really happy to have found this decorator, I will be ordering from her many more times.

Hard to avoid any water on our walk to and from school now, this one was half way up my shins πŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯ still enjoying the long almost 3km walks twice a day though but I will enjoy it more once it's dried out again

The weather has been getting really nice lately, so we’re walking to school now. I have been keeping track of the walks and I’m walking about 3km twice a day! My legs were not loving it at first but now I’m really enjoying it. The only problem with the good weather is all the melting that’s been happening and the puddles that come with that melting. There’s a lot of avoiding but sometimes you just can’t get around the puddles. This one I avoided one way but took my chances coming back only to find it went half way up my shins. It was not very fun! I’m really ready for everything to finally dry up around here.

Made our way to the game exhibit at WDM today, the oversized controllers were fun! #yxe #wdmsaskatoon

Just this weekend, we made our way to see a game exhibit at our museum and it was so much fun. There were a lot of older games to try out, along with some over-sized controllers to use. We all had a lot of fun, afterward we went through Boom Town, which is a little street with buildings to go inside. I can’t even count the number of times that I have been there, it’s my favorite place to visit. They have a small version of an Eaton house there now that is a lot of fun to see, it’s the same house that my dad grew up in and I lived in for a short amount of time as a kid too. It’s obviously shrunken down and they only have a few rooms to view but I find it cool to see there.

The kids have this week off of school now, so there will hopefully be lots of outside time if the weather keeps being a nice as it has. A library visit will have to be put in somewhere too!

thanks for stopping by today, have a great day!

new year…

Good morning! Happy 2017, it’s a bit late for saying that but it needs to be said with this being my first post of the year. I’ve never really made resolutions for myself but I have made crafty goals, this year though, I’ve decided to do absolutely nothing like that. I’m going to just go with the flow for the entire year, as much as I can, I do always have ideas floating in my head.

I already shared my best nine but here's my favorite nine projects from this past year 😊 hoping for another fun crafty year in 2017 #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #ourmakerlife #2016favoritenine

( ^ my favorite projects from 2016 ^ )

Knitting and crocheting have been put on hold again. Tendinitis hit again, this time much worse into my shoulder. I had x-rays done again and am resting my arm again. We are moving next month, so as soon as my pain hit, I immediately packed away all of my yarn and projects so I will not be tempted by any of it. The packing does irritate my arm though, so I don’t have as much done as I would like.

I’m really excited for the move though, it’s a much bigger house than what we are in now. I can’t wait to start making the place our own. And hopefully not too long after we’re settled, I can knit again.

πŸ˜ͺπŸ˜ͺ #sockblanketmadness #cozymemoriesblanket #georgethecat #catsofinstagramfinished the owls! Every time I make one, I fall in love, they're so cute πŸ’• . . . #crochetaddicts #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #freshstitches #toymakers #crochet #crochetconcupiscence #makersgonnamake #amigurumi #amig

I knit quite a few pairs of socks during the year and if I'm being honest with myself, I'm just not going to wear them all. I've decided to sell a few of them, ones not worn of course, so they will hopefully get some deserved love πŸ’“ I've posted

on my needles today... #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftastherapy #ggknitworthy2016 #husbandsocks

looks like a gigantic sock!! It's really not but the leg is much longer than I intended to knit. The ball is so squishy now and making me worried I won't have enough for the second sock, it may end up with a very long white toe. Fingers crossed it won't!

Cheeseburger cupcakes for the birthday girl! 12 years old!! The cupcakes actually turned out better than I expected them to, not great but not terrible either! πŸ‘

Gosh, it’s been quite some time since I last sat down to write here, I barely know where to start. I’ve been feeling off again, I hate writing that or saying that because I don’t even know how to say what it is… It just is. Such a frustrating time. I wish I could say I’m fully out of that head space, oh how I wish, I’m getting there though. but, I keep myself busy mostly, as you can see above.

My sister asked me to crochet some baby gifts, she’s my best customer! The owls I crocheted turned out crazy adorable, I love them every time I make them and I love that they’re still my sister’s go to for baby showers. The pattern for them can be found on ravelry here.

I listed socks to sell on instagram (caseysknitsocks). Selling my socks is something that is never on my mind when I knit. I’m sure the way I’m feeling is what pushed me to do it. I’m still okay with parting with some of my socks. I listed socks I knit this year and never wore because of box of socks KAL. I will not being doing a KAL like that again, it’s definitely a fun idea but I want to go back to knitting and instantly wearing again, that makes me happier.

This Christmas, my husband is getting two pairs of socks, maybe three if my hand doesn’t start hurting too much. I have given him one pair for the last two years, but I decided to try more after he mentioned that he doesn’t have enough knit socks. He’s been wearing the ones I knit a lot in the last couple months, so I think he’s finally found the love for the hand knits. I know he liked them before but he wasn’t wearing them as often as now.

I started a pair with Patons Kroy last month but then I was gifted some Gingerbread House by The Cozy Knitter and I knew I had to make that a pair for him. He’s much more in love with Christmas than me! So, if I can get through these socks without causing myself too much pain, I’ll go back to finishing the Patons Kroy as well. The pattern I’m using for the striping socks is Optio, I knit the leg longer than I intended and now the ball of yarn is massively squishy, I’m hoping I can get the same amount of stripes on the second sock!

This week is birthday week in our house, my oldest daughter turned 12 on Tuesday and today my youngest daughter turns 10. Two of my children are double digits, that just seems plain crazy! My oldest loves her cheeseburgers, so I made cheeseburger cupcakes. They turned out pretty cool, not amazing but I’m impressed with myself! My 10 year old got her ears pierced yesterday, something she’s been wanting for years! We told her a long time ago that she could do it once she was 10 and she did not forget, she started reminding us a couple weeks ago, too funny.

Anyway, thanks for stopping in today! Hope you have good weather where you are, today with the windchill, it’s going to be -32. I love the cold but we have no snow, so I’m not enjoying it as much yet! Have a great day πŸ™‚

year of projects

Well, hello! Happy Halloween Eve πŸ™‚

It’s been quite awhile since I have posted an update for Year of Projects, two months to be exact! Yikes.Β I have ticked off a few projects from my initial list since then though!Β I’m going to just share my finishes this week for my update πŸ™‚

socks – 5/20

finished these beauties the other night!πŸŽ‰ I love everything about them, the cuff is the best! πŸ’— . . #perlecottagesocks #perlecottagekal #perlecottagefo #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftastherapy #boxo

finished #oneweeksockchallenge socks!! I love doing these challenges every so often, thanks @jennemerson for hosting them and giving me an excuse to whip out a pair of socks 😊 pattern is Vanilla is the New Black with a rolled cuff and yarn is #baere

I finished a couple pairs of socks, the Perle Cottage Socks and Vanilla is the New Black socks. The heel in the last pair was so much fun to knit, I’m thinking it may be a new favorite, I haven’t worn them much but so far I like the fit. I hope it will pair well with other patterns.

blankets

this blanket is around half way done, maybe, almost too big to get a decent sneaky shot, without the recepient spotting it. My hand has rebelled a few times but I'm hoping to push through! Knitting feels so slow though, I wish the boy would have wanted a

I stitched up a tag for the birthday blanket, I'm planning on doing these for all future blankets I make for the kids! #knittersofinstagram #birthdayblanket #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #ourmakerlife

I knit my son a blanket for his birthday in September, I never actually grabbed a “finished” shot of it, it’s pretty big, it fits his twin sized bed. For it, I stitched up a little tag with his birthday so that if he still has it when he’s older, he’ll be able to remember when he got it.

I had planned on attempting to get blankets made for each of my kids during this year but after rushing so much with this last blanket, I think I’ve decided that I want to make them blankets for the big birthdays, like 13. That gives me a pretty good amount of time before I need to make the next one, over a year, my oldest will be 12 this year.

toys

got my crochet on for a Halloween costume prop πŸ’€ . . . #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #amigurumi #crochetaddicts #makersgonnamake #toymakers #crochet #halloweencrochet #halloween #wednesdayaddams #doll

When I started trying to figure out what I’ve made in the time since I last updated, I was sure I hadn’t done any toys but I almost forgot about this one! My daughter is dressing up as Wednesday Addams for Halloween this year, so I crocheted a headless doll for her carry around.

miscellaneous

a little kerchief cowl just in time for the first day of fall! πŸƒπŸƒ #knittersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #amigurumi #freshstitches

I knit up a cowl for my house squirrel (pattern here). I had planned on knitting him a shawl after I crocheted him a year ago but never did it. I’m a good procrastinator! I was knitting a shawl but gave up on it being the right size and made a cowl instead, it’s still cozy looking though.

cheeseburger tissue cozy

Lastly, I crocheted a cheeseburger tissue cozy for my eldest’s birthday in December. I’m really excited to give this one to her!

See other Year of Project posts here.

Thanks for reading this week, I’m hoping I won’t fall behind on updates again.

yarn along

Hello! I’ve been doing a lot of different things, reading, knitting and even crocheting. Β I am enjoying crocheting more again, I say it anytime I manage to squeeze in some of it but I want to keep doing more of it.

reading and knitting with George 😻 all I want to do for the rest of today. . . . #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #bookstagram #georgethecat #catsofinstagram

George keeps me company most of the time, he’s always the comfiest. I started a pair of mittens that are now being frogged but I’m not even a little upset over it! Right now I’m reading Results May Vary by Bethany Chase, it’s been a slow read but not in a bad way.

Before this book, IΒ read It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover and it was such a great read! I cried and felt so many different emotions reading this one, it was almost too hard for me to read, it really brought out so much, it’s such a real, honest story. I think I can only say that this book deals with domestic violence, if I go too into the story, I’d give too much away I think. I couldn’t get the book out of my mind days after reading it.

the crochet!

got my crochet on for a Halloween costume prop πŸ’€ . . . #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #amigurumi #crochetaddicts #makersgonnamake #toymakers #crochet #halloweencrochet #halloween #wednesdayaddams #doll

First thing I crocheted is this headless Wednesday Addams doll. My daughter is dressing as Wednesday for Halloween this year and I decided that instead of ripping off the head of one of the many baby dolls in this house, I would crochet one instead. I think it turned out really cute! No pattern for her, just made her up.

cheeseburger tissue cozy

Next up is this super fun cheeseburger tissue cozy! My oldest daughter loves anything hamburgers, so I thought this would beΒ really fun to give her for her birthday this year. Her birthday isn’t until December but I had Twinkie Chan’s Crocheted Abode a la Mode out from the library, so I decided to get it made before I had to return it. I’m pretty excited to have a gift done this early though, I’m usually a massive procrastinator when it comes to handmade gifts. Another fun part of this gift is that I’m going to tape money together so it comes out like tissue when she opens it, she has been dropping so many non subtle hints that she wants cash this year haha. We’re going to be cool parents and surprise her this year, totally not something we would normally do!

one week sock challenge (3)

Hello, happy Friday!

I had yet another dentist appointment the other day to have another tooth removed, this time without the help of an oral surgeon this time, so I was awake for it. I’m experiencing the pain I expected from the first tooth I had removed, it’s extremely not fun. I have been keeping myself occupied with knitting though. I participated in another one week sock challenge, it’s my third time challenging myself to the task.

I used some gorgeous Baerenwolle yarn that I won in a giveaway months ago. It took me awhile to land on the right pattern for this yarn, so I didn’t get started on my socks until Saturday. I decided to finally give the Vanilla is the New Black pattern a try, to try a new heel and to let the yarn do the talking.

Soon to be Vanilla is the New Black socks, rolled cuff because I loves it! Yarn is @baerenwolle πŸ’• . . . #oneweeksockchallenge #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftastherapy

Earlier this year, I knit a pair of socks with a rolled cuff and really liked them, so I decided to knit this pair with the rolled cuff as well. It’s a cuff I will be knitting often I think.

One sock done, I really enjoy the construction of the heel. pattern is Vanilla is the New Black, yarn is #baerenwolle . . . #oneweeksockchallenge #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftastherapy

I had a couple failed attempts when I got to the heel on the first sock, but third time was the charm. I love the construction of this heel, not having to pick up stitches is really great. It also fits really great too, so I will be knitting it again.

finished #oneweeksockchallenge socks!! I love doing these challenges every so often, thanks @jennemerson for hosting them and giving me an excuse to whip out a pair of socks 😊 pattern is Vanilla is the New Black with a rolled cuff and yarn is #baere

I finished within the week again! I really enjoy challenging myself to this every so often, I can’t wait for the next ‘one week sock challenge‘. Β You can see my socks from the other challenges I did here and here.

Thanks for stopping by today, have a great weekend!

back to normal

Hello!

My oral surgery went great last week, thanks for the love β™₯. The day started with me not eating because of having to fast, not fun. They called me right in the morning because they had a cancellation due to the weather (snow!) and so I went in early. My main fear was the drugs, I’m not a fan of not being in control of myself but it went alright. I definitely don’t remember a thing, like the series of pictures of my arm I found on my phone the next day… It was funny to find though. I was told to expect a lot of pain afterwards as well but I haven’t had any serious pain that can’t be helped with a little Advil. I’m so happy to have been able to have the tooth taken care of now, there’s no way I could have made it to December in the pain I was in. Things are great again!

finished these beauties the other night!πŸŽ‰ I love everything about them, the cuff is the best! πŸ’— . . #perlecottagesocks #perlecottagekal #perlecottagefo #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #socktawk #operationsockdrawer #craftastherapy #boxo

Now that I’m not in constant pain, my sock knitting mojo has returned! I started these Perle Cottage socks back in August and they sat untouched for quite some time. I picked them up again Tuesday and finished them. These socks are so much fun! The cuff is perfect and I want to do more of them!

knitting always comes before laundry πŸ˜‰ . . . #knittersofinstagram #cozymemoriesblanket #knittersofig #procrastiknit #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake

And I’m still happily knitting on my cozy memories blanket. I’m about to square it off to 132 squares. I have a few projects I’d like to get working on, so I may put the blanket aside again for a little while.

Other than knitting, I started a new book, All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood. The only thing I really heard about this one is that it’s a bit disturbing and it definitely is. I am enjoying it though, through the cringe worthy parts and all.

Linking up with Yarn Along and KCCO this week.

Hope everyone is having a great week! Talk soon!
