feels

the other sock is to be frogged 🐸 my gauge was way too tight. I'm knitting with bigger needles now, they're a better fit but I'm not sure how I feel about the looser gauge yet πŸ˜• I'll keep knitting though. . . #knittersofinstagram #sockknitte

Good afternoon! Today is a nice cold day, nice because I’m sitting cozy inside knitting… nothing to complain about here. I have my husband’s Christmas socks on the needles, I’m using my new needles from Knit Picks. I’m loving the needles, they’re the nickel plated DPNs. I’m not 100% sure how I feel about the gauge I’m getting but they fit a lot better, so I’m going to continue on with them.

This past week was a little weird for me. I found out about someone I knew years ago passing away last weekend. I had actually looked him up on facebook to message just two weeks ago but I chickened out and didn’t do it. I think that’s why the news has made me feel like it has. I’m just feeling weird.. I wish I could have been brave enough to have taken those few minutes to just say something and clear the air. We had the most ridiculous, public fight when I was pregnant with my first. When I look back on it, it was so stupidly funny. Ugh. But, we hadn’t talked since that stupidity. Regrets suck. I guess that’s what the main feeling is…

Anyway.

talk again soon!

getting Christmas ready…

hello! it’s very much winter time here now, it’s snowing as I’m typing. It snowed not long after Halloween and actually stuck around. We’ve had quite a few cold days but I’m enjoying the coziness! All the winter weather had me in the mood to start on some Christmas crafts and it’s taken everything over completely. It’s all I want to do for the rest of the year.

πŸŽ…πŸ’•πŸ’• so flipping cute!! gave myself a blister sewing other parts of this, so now I have to set him aside for awhile ☹☹ . . . . . #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #christmascrochet #santaclaus

I’m making a Santa advent pillow. I found this pattern a year or two ago but just never found the time to sit down and make it. It was the first thing that started up my Christmas crafting. He’s close to being done but my embroidery is awful, so I’ve been putting off embroidering numbers on, I’m trying to find some other way to add numbers but just haven’t found anything yet. Find the pattern here, Santa Countdown Pillow.

stitchy progress πŸŽ… . #crossstitchersofinstagram #craftastherapy #stitchrovia #santaclausiscomingtotown

The other Santa themed project I’ve been working on is a new cross stitch picture. The pattern is from Stitchrovia, one of my favorites. It’s been a pretty quick stitch so far. She has a couple more Christmas themed patterns I would love to stitch up some day! Find the pattern for this one here, Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

happy mail! happy mail! πŸŽ„ I may be doing some Christmas sock knitting soon πŸ˜„ waiting on new DPNs to come in first though... . . . #knittersofinstagram #knitallthesocks #socktawk #sockknittersofinstagram #christmasknitting

And my last project (so far) is some Christmas socks. I bought three skeins of this Candy Cane yarn from West Yorkshire Spinners with plans to knit myself, my husband and my sister each a pair of socks. I started a pair of socks already but knit them way too tightly, so I had to put them aside to wait for new needles.

In the last year, I have noticed that my gauge has changed quite a bit when I knit, when I started I used 2.25mm but am finding that I get better fit and gauge at a 2.5mm now, so I had to order new needles. Also, I’m trying to use DPNs now because I’m finding that my hand don’t end up in as much pain as when I use my circulars. I have my new needles now and just started a new pair, so hopefully I will be able to get the three pairs finished before Christmas!

That’s all I have started so far, I still have ornaments to get making. I need to get the pattern figured out so I’m not making them last minute. I am thinking about one of these cute Christmas cupcakes but I’m not sure which yet!

Anyway, thanks for stopping in today!

recent projects

hello! It’s definitely fall here now and I am enjoying it as much as I can. We don’t usually get much of a long fall where I live but it seems to be sticking this year, it’s amazing!

I’m still enjoying work, I’ve lost 10lbs since I started, so I’m pretty happy about that! Kids are doing good, I took my son in for allergy testing last week because he reacted to some food and his toothpaste this summer. He’s allergic to most animals and outdoors but no food! The doctor was awful but we got some answers, that was the good part at least.

Anyway, on to what I’ve been making! I crocheted a couple toys for a project called Toys for Syrian Refugee Children. I crocheted the lion and a bear, I wanted to crochet more but I lost a bit of mojo again. I’m happy to be sending something off though!

another toy for @chubbyknots_crochet 🐻 this time a bear #toysforsyrianrefugeechildren #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #crochetaddict #amigurumilove #toymakers #amigurumi #makersgonnamake

I’m also knitting again! I decided that I wanted to make myself some fingerless mittens from the yarn I purchased from MidKnit Cravings. I’m using DPNs and I haven’t been feeling too much pain using them, so I think I may need to invest in more of them so I can get back to knitting socks.

I have a finished glove! πŸ˜„ I used the Blueberry Waffles stitch pattern for it but other than that, I just winged it. I'm really happy that it worked out how I wanted it to and that I didn't have to frog at all once I got the stitch count figured out

I finished one mitt this weekend, I’m really happy with how it turned out, I can’t wait to have the pair finished! I’m using the Blueberry Waffles stitch pattern but no pattern for the actual mitt. Getting the stitch count right was the only small issue I had but I got it and had no problems afterwards. The yarn is fun to knit with, it screams fall to me!

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you’re getting some great fall weather where you are.

happenings

crocheting
I’ve been doing a bit of crochet on my Hexie Love Actually blanket, I got really excited earlier this month and decided I wanted to get it finished before my birthday at the end of June. BUT, I don’t think I even want to. I thought I was closer to finishing than I actually am, I finished another round and I want it bigger, so that means I need to order a little more yarn again…. and because of that I don’t want to work on it again. Oh well, I’m not going to beat myself up over it! It will get done when it gets done, I’ll be happy whenever that is.

🌻no more letting this one sit for months on end. My goal is to have it finished for my birthday, June 29th! I can do it! πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #hexieloveactually #makersgonnamake

knitting
I’m actually not knitting anything right now. Β I not only finished the pair of socks that I was working on last time I shared my knitting but I started and finished another pair as well!

All the ends are sewn in, so they're officially finished! 😍 they make me happy! #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #nikkislipp #manosdeluruguay

These were so much fun to knit up, I’m so happy with them! The stripes are from a mini set I bought from Nikki Slipp on etsy and the grey is Alegria in the Marshes colorway. The pattern I used for the texture is Hermione’s Everyday Socks.

finished these pretties up! Yarn: @havenfibrearts in Flower Shop Pattern: Lavender Sachet Socks (free on ravelry) #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #havenfibrearts

This next pair that I knit is a yarn from Haven Fibre Arts in her Flower Shop colorway. It was my first time using this yarn, it did not disappoint. Jess does an amazing job dyeing yarn, I’m not always happy with how yarn looks at the gusset because you can tell there’s more stitches by the way the yarn changes but I think with this you really can’t tell at all. It’s perfect and makes me crazy happy! I wanted to only have patterning on the cuff with this yarn, I searched and searched until I finally found the Lavender Sachet pattern, it was exactly what I wanted, I only used the patterning on the cuff and left everything else out.

reading
I just finished reading This Is How it Always Is by Laurie Frankel, IΒ loved this one! It took me a couple of days to find myself officially hooked but it happened and I could not put it down. It makes you go through so many different emotions, so good! This blurb about the book is the only way to really explain without giving too much away:

This Is How It Always Is is a novel about revelations, transformations, fairy tales, and family. And it’s about the ways this is how it always is: Change is always hard and miraculous and hard again, parenting is always a leap into the unknown with crossed fingers and full hearts, children grow but not always according to plan. And families with secrets don’t get to keep them forever.

I’m now just starting to readΒ Do Not Become Alarmed by Maile Meloy. Most of the time, I find it pretty hard to get into a new book after finishing a really amazing one but I’m hoping it won’t be a problem this time.

feeling
I’m feeling irritated by all the blogs that have too many ads on them, they take FOREVER to load! I most often just exit and don’t bother with them anymore, it sucks because there’s patterns I would love to check out but I won’t because of the wait times. I know that I can’t be the only one who feels this way! Just stop!

It’s the weekend now! We have a busy day tomorrow, there’s some fun things happening at the library that should keep us busy most of the day and then we are going mini golfing for my nieces’ birthday. Should be a fun time. I hope everyone out there has a great weekend too!

getting things done (for kids)

I’ve been finishing up some things for the kids lately. First up, this wall hanging I made for my son. He’s interested in everything about the world, he’s constantly on the Maps app just randomly picking out places to look at and learn about. Making a wall hanging from pom poms has been something I’ve wanted to try for quite awhile, I think this was a perfect project to make as practise for what I’d like to eventually make.

I made thisΒ to look like his own little world. It took a lot of yarn to make! I enjoyed the process a lot though! The pom poms are attached to a non slip rug pad that I found at the dollar store. This would be a really good floor rug too but I wanted it to hang over his bed. I backed it with foam board so it wouldn’t be so flimsy. I’m so happy with it! He was really excited when I finally hung it up for him. Now I need to figure out my next pom pom project.

this is what I was doing with all the pom poms! It's a wall hanging for my son's room. He's very into world stuff, so I made this to look like his own little planet. 🌎 I'm really happy that it turned out just how I pictured it! Now I can mo

I also finally worked out some stuffed toy storage for my kids! Something I really should have gotten done months ago, they’ve been living with such messy rooms since we moved in.

For my daughter, I crocheted two hammocks out of some Bernat cotton. I added some pom pom yarn to make them less plain, I think it’s pretty fun! The pom pom yarn is from a discontinued line from Loops & Threads, I’ve had it for years and did nothing with it except use it for gift wrapping sometimes.

I put off making these for months but it's finally done... well almost, she needs a third 😐 my girl doesn't like to get rid of anything! #crochetersofinstagram #crochetgirlgang #craftastherapy #amigurumi #toymakers #ourmakerlife

My son also needed some storage for his stuffed animals. I knew he wouldn’t like the crocheted hammocks, so I just bought a couple sets of wire cubes and stacked them four high. Not crafty but walking by his room and seeing them finally organized makes me so happy! You can see a peek of his birthday blanket that I knit last year πŸ™‚

another kid's stuffed toy situation taken care of! I didn't do anything crafty this time but it's making me happy all the same πŸ˜„

Thanks for the visit today!

Our small trip out to Edmonton this weekend was a nice one, the weather was awesome for driving, a huge relief after all the stormy weather we had. I love the drive out there, it’s a few hours longer than the kids would like but I like watching the scenery. So many people say our province isn’t pretty but I’d say they’ve just never actually driven through before.

After 5-ish hours of driving, we were in our hotel relaxing.Β I took some time to knitΒ and finished up the first sock that I’ve been working on. I think there’ll be a finished pair before the weekend. This pattern is most likelyΒ going to become a go-to for me, this is the third time I’m knitting it, a definite favorite. It’s Hermione’s Everyday Socks.

ready for the kitchener πŸ’“ we're getting comfy in a hotel for the night, waiting on pizza. Then tomorrow, I get to go to @edmontonfibrefrolic πŸ˜€ so excited to check it out! #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftast

Once I finished that, we found the hotel pool and took a little swim and if you knew me, this would shock you! I don’t love water and am pretty terrified of it but I actually loved it and need to remember that I did so that I will do it more with the kids. I thought for sure I couldn’t remember how to even float but that part came back really easily. I’d like to get brave enough to take some adult swim lessons and learn how to swim again. I did as a kid and got decently far in the lessons but had couple scary almost drowning incidents that has had me staying out of the pool for years.

The main reason we went out to Edmonton was to pick up my husband and it just so happened that the Edmonton Fibre Frolic was going on the same weekend! Β The event had so many amazing booths with yarn, bags and wonderful notions. I walked out with only four skeins of yarn but I’m happy with what I walked away with. Next year though, I’m going to just let myself go nuts in there! I spotted a couple podcasters but didn’t go out of my way to say, I’m a lot too shy to do that!

The beauties I brought home from the @edmontonfibrefrolic 😍 there was much more I would have loved to have taken home, I might possibly be kicking myself just a little but next year there will be no holding back! I'm so happy that I happened to

crafting all over the place

crochet
I crocheted up a little unicorn last week, using a pattern from Fresh Stitches, Clarita the Pig. I made some small changes to turn it into a unicorn. The yarn is Hawthorn & Wool in her Unicorn colorway, I bought the yarnΒ with the intention to crochet this Fatty Lumpkin pattern. I crocheted some of it but decided I didn’t actually like how it was turning out, so I tried to find a new pattern, took me awhile but once this pattern came along, I decided to use it. The hair is made from a fun fur I found in a remnants bag from Michaels, I have a lot more of the stuff and am looking for something to make with it. The unicorn is quite small but I’m really happy with how she turned out.

it's a wee unicorn πŸ’–πŸ’– Pattern: Clarita the Pig by @staceytrock I obviously made small changes to make it a unicorn πŸ˜€ Yarn: @hawthornandwool in her Unicorn colorway #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftasth

knitting
New socks are also on my needles, my needles have sat empty for a couple weeks and I felt the need to finally change that. I’m using a set of rainbow neon minis from NikkiSlipp on etsy and a skein ofΒ Alegria in the Marshes colorway.

I have no socks on the needles, going to change that this morning #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #craftastherapy #socktawk #makersgonnamake

I wasn’t sure how I was going to knit these socks, I just cast on and went with whatever flew off my needles. I ended up striping the minis at the top and then switching to the Hermione’s Everyday Socks pattern. I am so in love with how the sock is looking!

I had no solid plans when I cast on but I'm very happy with where I've ended up πŸ’• #knittersofinstagram #sockknittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #nikkislipp #manosdeluruguay

other yarn goodness
I have been dreaming up projects using pom poms for quite some time but I hadn’t figured out if it would work how I picture it. So, I’m making a little project right now to try it out. It’s going to be for my son and I’m actually very excited about how it’s turning out right now, I’m excited for it to be finished.

working with pom poms again #craftastherapy #pompom #makersgonnamake

This week,Β we’re getting ready to take a small trip to Edmonton. I found out that the Edmonton Fiber Frolic is happening the same day I will be in town, so I’m excited about checking it out. I have never been able to make it to an event like it before. I’m hoping that the weather gets better for our drive out on Friday, right now it’s storming and raining off and on with quite a few different warnings for the next couple days happening. I’m not a fan of driving on the highway in the rain, so fingers crossed that it is over by then!

Thanks for stopping in! Hope you have a great rest of your week.
