a real life finished blanket!

I had some crappy internet troubles again last week (so close to switching providers), so I couldn’t post about the projects I got finished. I feel like I have been so terrible at finishing off projects, blankets especially, that I was pretty excited that I finished pretty close to when I wanted them done.

pom poms 💕 #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #ratschebohohippieblankie #caroncakes

I was addicted to this blanket I crocheted using Caron Cakes. I think I would like to make this pattern again but with different yarn. I’d also make it much bigger, this one ended up 45X45 inches, definitely not big at all. My oldest likes it for curling up under when she’s on the couch though, so it’s being used!

It's done! This was a fun one to put together 😊 Each section is a full Caron Cake, I used the Rainbow Sprinkles colorway. I would happily crochet this type of blanket again! The pattern is from @ratschebutsch under the #ratschebohohippieblankietutor

The pattern for the blanket can be found under the hashtag #ratschebohohippieblankietutorial on instagram. I used a skein of Caron Cakes in the Rainbow Sprinkles colorway for each section of the blanket, I had very tiny leftovers from three of them. For the border, I used almost an entire skein of white Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn. The pattern for the border is free and can be found here.

Fresh off the needles to start the week! pattern: Socks on a Plane yarn: @hawthornandwool in Drift #knittersofinstagram #socktawk #hawthornandwool #socksonaplane #craftastherapy

I also managed to get my socks finished! The pattern is Socks on a Plane and it’s free on ravelry. I knit this pattern once before but gifted the finished socks, so I’m really happy I now I have a pair for myself. I love knitting this pattern, the cable is simple enough that this move pretty quick off the needles. Yarn is by Hawthorn & Wool in the Drift colorway, a local to me yarn. The dyer owns a shop in a town close to me, I visit it as often as I can, it’s beautiful. She’s a florist and does beautiful arrangements, I haven’t got one because my allergies are crazy rough but I have gotten a couple plants from her, I will suck it up at some point, her arrangements are really that gorgeous.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got today. It’s grey and chilly out, so it’s making my brain feel a bit foggy. Hope the weather is sunnier where you are! Thanks for stopping in!

weekend plans

My husband is back from work this weekend and all next week but I think I can squeeze in some time for crocheting and knitting. I would like to be outside though if I can, the weather is supposed to be really good, in the 30’s (celcius). All week my allergies have been fighting against me being out there too long though. darn the growing season! I have allergies all year long but right now is really a crappy time for them.

after too many starts and frogs with this yarn, I feel like I finally found its project! #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #ratschebohohippieblankie #caroncakes

I started a blanket using my Caron Cakes yarn. I have started more than a few projects using it, so I’m happy that I finally found the project it wanted to be. I’m not entirely following the pattern that I found for this, it’s super easy so I only looked at it and started crocheting. It is under the hashtag #ratschebohohippieblankietutorial if you’re interested in it.

this and listening to S-town plus a noisy robin digging right by my open window. #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #ratschebohohippieblankie #potatochipcrochet

I’m really enjoying this project, it’s hard to put aside for any length of time. Granny stitches really are potato chip crochet! When I finally landed on this project, I thought it might be cool to have each section exactly the same but each skein starts and ends on different colors. I’m fine with them not being identical, I think it will still look really cool.

Maybe I'll have another pair of socks after the weekend? #knittersofinstagram #socktawk #craftastherapy #hawthornandwool #socksonaplane

I’d also like to work on these socks. I had planned on finishing last weekend but my arm acted up too much, so I set them to the side. There’s only a couple cables and a toe to finish now. I’ll be happy to have this pair to wear!

I hope that your weather is good where you are and that you can enjoy your weekend! Thanks for stopping in!

a birthday blanket

a blanket in 10 days? hopefully! 👍 #knittersofinstagram #knittersofig #blanket #birthdayblanket #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #ourmakerlife

Last week was my son’s 8th birthday and I challenged myself to knit a complete blanket by it, only 10 days. Knitting on this blanket is the only project I worked on in those 10 days. The kids went back to school, so I had two full days of knitting without worrying about him seeing the blanket.

I'm not the most optimistic right now but I'm still knitting! They're the size of my hand, so pretty big! #knittersofinstagram #birthdayblanket #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #ourmakerlife #craftastherapy_geometrical

this blanket is around half way done, maybe, almost too big to get a decent sneaky shot, without the recepient spotting it. My hand has rebelled a few times but I'm hoping to push through! Knitting feels so slow though, I wish the boy would have wanted a

I chose to knit mitered squares in a patchwork style. Earlier this year, my son had watched me knitting on my sock blanket and asked if that one was for him. After that, we started looking through ravelry at different blankets I could possibly knit for him. He did say he wanted one like my sock blanket and that it had to be knit. I of course procrastinated big time and thought something else might be out there. In the end and cutting it far too close, I decided on this.

not small squares! #knittersofinstagram #birthdayblanket #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #ourmakerlife

I decided that the squares should be much bigger than my sock blanket, I thought the size would help me finish it faster. It felt like it took forever to knit, my hand hurt while doing it so often but I pushed through the pain and managed to finish in time! Well, pretty much. I thought the blanket should be one more row wider but it fits his bed, so I decided to give it to him and let him decide if he’d like it a little bigger.

loads of ends to weave in today but it's done(ish)! I feel like it could use one more row of squares but there's no way I can crank them out before tonight! I'm going to let the birthday boy decide if he'd like it bigger still before I add the final borde

He slept with it on his birthday and decided one more row would be okay. I haven’t started knitting it yet though because when I stopped knitting, my hand got much worse. I’ve been to the doctor and it’s definitely tendinitis again, so I’m resting my hand for awhile. Hopefully by next week, I can get started on the next row. I didn’t snag a “finished” shot yet but I will once it’s actually finished!

I stitched up a tag for the birthday blanket, I'm planning on doing these for all future blankets I make for the kids! #knittersofinstagram #birthdayblanket #craftastherapy #makersgonnamake #ourmakerlife

I stitched up a tag to sew onto the blanket also, I’ve thought about doing these for other blankets but have never actually done it. I’m planning on doing this for all future blankets I give my children. I think it’s a sweet idea, hopefully if they keep their blankets for years, they will too.

Have a great week!

hello! happy Monday! The kids are now on summer break, so I could sleep in if I really wanted to. I still wake up early but knowing I don’t have to is nice.

Canada Day was on Friday, 149 years old! My husband is away at work again this year, so it was just me and the kids. We ate pancakes at home instead of the park because of rain. After the quick rain in the morning, we headed down to the celebrations in the city for a few hours. My girls and I each got henna tattoos, I had one years ago and it lasted weeks, this one though is already mostly faded. Still fun though!

got henna tattoos with my girls! 💕💕 Happy Canada Day!!

After the city, we headed out to the provincial park to see my family. This year, the park didn’t have anything fun set up, so we just went to the beach for awhile. While the kids played in the water and on a paddling board with my sister, I squeezed in some knitting. (this sock is moving crazy slow for me!)  It started raining, so we decided to grab ice cream and head out. Once we got our ice cream, it was a downpour. It didn’t get much better after that, so we went back to the city. We were all pretty tired, so it was a good day.

squeezed in some sock knitting at the beach before a downpour, still got ice cream though 😜🍦#socktawk #knittersofinstagram #craftastherapy #manosdeluruguay

The rest of the weekend, I spent sewing in the final ends on my scrappy blanket and I even got a simple border added. I’m pretty sure that I’m calling it done now. If we get a good sunny day this week, I’ll be bringing it out with us so I can snap a couple pictures of it.

'sc'ing around my blanket and reading The Nest when I take breaks #crochetgirlgang #crochetersofinstagram #craftastherapy #watchmewipkal #booksandyarn

I also read and finished The Nest. I don’t really know how to describe this book except that it was really good. If you haven’t heard anything about the book, it’s about siblings and other people in their world. It’s told from so many different view points that I thought I would never be able to get into it. I did though, reading the book was all I really wanted to do yesterday, I think I read about 80% of it in one sitting, it’s not easy to put down!

thanks for stopping by today ♥ have an amazing day and Happy July 4th to my American friends! ♥

happy birthday

Early birthday cake! 33 tomorrow!

Today is my birthday, I’m 33. I normally could really care less about how old I am, I actually frequently forget my age when asked but I like the number 33, so I’m going to try to make it a really good year! It’s not starting off the best though, my throat and ears are causing me such awful pain, bad enough to make me go see my doctor, blah. Being sick on my birthday isn’t uncommon, I usually have something wrong, one birthday as a kid I ended up with chicken pox.

After the doctor today, I stopped by the library to grab a few books. The library has books that are newer and popular set out to borrow for only a week, so I’ll be starting with The Nest. I actually haven’t heard too much about this one other than it’s really good, so I’m going into it pretty blind. It’s nice to go into books that way sometimes. Lily and the Octopus is going to be the same thing, I’ve only heard it’s good.

I also got Mandalas to Crochet written by Haafner Linssen, her blog is here. Once upon a time I really loved mandalas, just flipping through this one has me excited, I want to crochet them all!

new library books

My socks are finally moving along! I’m knitting plain vanilla for the feet, so it should grow quite quickly.

a couple more project updates:

wig in progress

I said I wanted to get this doll finished last week but reading took over, so she sat untouched. I’m crocheting her wig right now, so it shouldn’t be much longer.

last circles to be added

I have joined the last of the squares to my scrappy blanket, I just need to get on weaving in those ends! I think I may have even figured out what I want for the border

linking up with Yarn Along again this week. And also with KCCO.

thanks for reading, have a wonderful day! ♥ ♥

books & yarn

new book to read after my hands can't handle any more cotton crochet

I finished reading Landline from last week, it was a nice quick, enjoyable read. I once tried reading a book with the same type of theme and really hated it but this one I didn’t mind, it’s not a favorite though. Must have just been in the right head space for it I guess. I’m going to start reading Their Fractured Light tonight, it’s the third book in a series. I’m pretty sue that this one is the final book. This book actually finally came up in my ebook library to borrow yesterday but I decided that I wanted a real book, so we visited the library last night. I have never been much of a fan of reading hardcovers but the library doesn’t carry many paperback copies of books, so I’m trying to warm up to them.

Other than reading, I’ve been working pretty hard on my cotton scrappy blanket. I have 16 more squares to add to it, I still think that it will be as big as it’s getting after that. I will still have a decent amount of cotton left after I finish, I have four skeins that have never been broken in to, so I’m going to knit up some washcloths with the rest.

linking up with Yarn Along today. thanks for reading ♥

Friday night was the night I got to see Garth Brooks in concert! I have loved him since I was very very young. He announced that he was doing a concert back in April and of course we had to get tickets, thankfully we were able to afford to do it! I don’t know how I would feel if I had missed this opportunity. The day the tickets were on sale was crazy, 5 more shows went on sale at the same time, insane! I had a computer going, my husband too and my sister. My sister was the only one who managed to get through and get them. It was a big deal, everywhere I went people were talking about what seats they got, I couldn’t even get help that day from my bank manager because he was busy on the phone trying to get tickets haha. not professional I guess but it was pretty funny.

But anyway, we went Friday night! Our seats were really good, we had zero issues seeing anything. Even as I’m writing this, I’m feeling at a bit of a lose for words. It was such an amazing experience, he is just such an amazing man. So many feelings throughout the night! I didn’t full out cry but it was close a few times. I did try to take a few pictures a couple times during the concert but I mostly just wanted to enjoy the experience. He did two shows that night, we went to the second show that was supposed to start at 10:30 but because of the first show still letting out while people were trying to get in, it started at 11:00 instead, not too bad. The concert ended after 1:30, such a late night but so, so worth it!

Garth Brooks!

I’m back crocheting my blanket again. I decided that I’m going to add another round of squares, so in the end (I think the end this time) it will be 169 squares big! Today, I’m crocheting more circles. I’ll probably ignore everything else to just concentrate on this blanket, maybe I can have it done by the weekend!

all the color of this blanket makes me feel happy while I work on it. ♥ have a happy day!
